Hi all,

Long story short, after running a complete Action Plan on ISTA P after installation of a replacement DSC module, which included a DME/DDE Read/Program/Code cycle, the ECU is now stuck in Programming State 5. I'm getting this info from a full module read on INPA.
I'm aware that I should've selected the individual module for DSC 'encoding' on the Action List, but here we are :bh:
The engine will turn over on the starter motor but the fuel pump doesn't prime and the engine doesn't fire up. I'm guessing it's possible that when in state 5 the comms from the DME are limited and/or other conditions aren't being met for the car to actually start.

Can anybody offer advice on how to set the DME back to state 1? and/or what to do from this point to get it sorted.

Many thanks in advance!

If you have an ICOM then try re-flashing the MSS60 with WinKFP.

Hi Martyn,

I have a K+DCAN cable running on an ICOM emulator. The connection is nice and stable and I'm using a battery tender during any coding processes.
I had Zed Coding look at the car remotely yesterday and with three differing configurations in WinKFP the flash fails at 100% with an ECU security error.
Once the remote session had finished I spent a few more hours trying various other permutations of the flashing process with no luck.

You really don't want to be flashing an MSS60 with an unpatched K+DCAN cable as it's likely to brick it. It's fine if you're using one of my patched cables, or a BimmerGeeks cable but any standard cable will result in a hard brick.

Is an ECU security error at the end of the flash a symptom of an unpatched K+DCAN cable?

Potentially, as the unpatched cable will flash corrupted data to the DME, which will then fail the security / checksum verification checks at the end of the flash.

Yeah, that won't be a patched cable. You need a cable that's been patched with specific firmware from the guy who wrote ediabaslib.

I'd post a link to my patched cables but 'someone' will cry about it.

Patched cables look identical to unpatched ones, it's the firmware on them that matters.

There isn't currently a way of telling what firmware is on them either, hence why I said unless you've sourced the cable from the only 2 people who flash them you're SOL.

unpatched cables are asking for trouble. Its most likely flashed wrong bytes. Best option is a bimmergeeks cable and a reflash with WinKFP, if that fails and its an mss60. You are looking at a dead ecu that cannot be recovered as present as far as I know, you cannot easily unlock one of the processors to try and recover via BDM.

This has now been solved with a firmware flashed cable supplied by Martyn via Ecuworx. The flash went through without fault. Now to sort the replacement DSC module out which was the intention in the first place :)

Thanks everyone for your help and guidance
