    Hey folks.

So I have an older model (July 2001) with an OEM business cd blaupunkt head unit and I've bought a newer Philips OEM business head unit so I can fit an aux cable and keep the original look on the interior whilst having something that can play music from my phone.

The problem I've uncovered is the blaupunkt unit has 2 antenna connections on the back ( 1 fakra and 1 iso antenna) I think that's what they're called and the car is wired to accept them. The newer Philips unit has only 1 fakra connection and nothing for the iso antenna. If I fit the original fakra wire from the car to the fakra on the Philips then the radio signal is terrible and the other antenna cable has nowhere to connect but is obviously required.

I've read that in pre 2002 cars the fakra cable powers the antenna amplifier mounted in the C pillar and the newer models have an amplifier built into the head units.

So I ask you geniuses what can I do to connect the Philips head unit to a car wired for the old Blaupunkt head unit and retain a fully functioning radio signal?
Photo attached is the Blaupunkt on top with its 2 connections circled and the lower is the Philips with only 1 connection.

Did you connect the bigger connector or the smaller one, to the new radio?

I connected the smaller wire to the newer radio. It was the only that fit.

You need to use the bigger one. You can buy an adapter off ebay. Let me know if you can’t find it and I will have a search.

Installed today. Problem solved. Thanks for your help matey.

What about the now redundant small fakra cable installed in the car. What does it do?
