Last year I decided to cage my E46 M3 but I couldn't live without a track car for the summer so I bought a stop gap in a Westfield CBR1000R.

A week later, just before I was going to book my M3 in for a cage, another M3 came up for sale which was already running a weld-in Custom Cage's cage.

Quick bit of man maths later and I decided it would work out better to buy this new car and sell my original M3 and the Westfield.

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I asked Dan at ADT Motors in Skipton if he would build the car for me, like he did with my old M3 which had been flawless. So I dropped it off straight from collecting it on the other side of the country.

But as it turns out, the new M3 was a bit of a lemon.

Head gasket had gone, bearings needed doing (apparently had been done), vanos hadn't been refreshed, custom exhaust was FAR too loud, oil pump was knackered, water pump knackered etc etc. It was a lemon.

Instead of passing on the lemon to another poor person I decided to go all out and turn it in to what it should be, a proper track car.

So I put my old M3 up for sale, used the Westfield for the summer and let Dan work on the car.

But it also turned out the Westfield was going to be a challenge to say the least.

First track day the engine blew.
Second track day had electrical issues.
Third track day had cam sensor issues.

it spent more time being shipped around getting fixed than it did on track.

I had to cancel 3 other track days and drive the car to multiple places to get the issues fixed. So I decided to fix all of the issues and sell it on. After a grand total of 15 laps over 3 track days it had cost me a fair wedge and I was glad to see the back of it.

    Back to the M3.

The plan was to fit new brakes (AP Pro 5000R) check it over and get out on track. But after Dan pulled the engine apart I thought I might as well go all out.

I swapped over the 4.1 plated diff from my old car as that was definitely something I wanted to keep.

    The long shopping list now consists of;
    • Engine refresh
      • ARP bolts
      • King Racing bearings
      • Vanos refresh
      • Head gasket
      • Water pump
      • Oil pump
    • AP Pro 5000R
      • BTCC discs & pads
    • Samsonas shifter
    • 5 speed gearbox
    • Clutchmasters FX400 clutch
    • Lightweight single exit exhaust
    • GTR style airbox
    • Custom radiator & oil cooler
    • New fibreglass panels
      • Front bumper
      • Rear bumper
      • Bonnet
      • Doors
      • Bootlid
    • Carbon roof
    • Carbon rear wing
    • Carbon front splitter
    • Carbon canards
    • Flocked dashboard
    • Lightweight battery
    • P4P windows
    • Heated front screen
    • Cartek isolator
    • Apex ARC-8
    • Team Dynamics 1.2
I'll try and find some photographs but I've not been the best at documenting it all.

The car is currently in for a full respray interior and exterior then back to ADT Motors to finish off and get ready for the 2020 track season!

I always found my old M3 too hot on track during the summer and a few people have said the best way to get air in to the cabin is a roof scoop so I ordered one from Carbontec after seeing how good their footrests looked.

I'll try and update the thread with actual photos instead of their product shots!

Bit of weight saving removing the rear parcel shelf, boot floor and battery space as running a much smaller lightweight battery didn't require the big OEM box space.

Nice big intake which required a custom radiator, oil cooler and brackets to fit. The carbon crash bar was cut to ensure there's enough airflow getting to the radiator.

Decided to treat myself to a Vbox HD2 & OLED Display as I have been running the non-HD version for a few years now.

Needed another set of wheels so I could run slicks, semi-slicks and wets. Decided on a set of NTM Pista III as I can't justify the £4500 on a set of BBS E88 no matter how much I want them! The NTM should be arriving in order 6-8 weeks as they are made to order.

This looks interesting. Love the style of taking it on the chin and going balls deep.

    Cheers

Ahh man, some rotten luck along the way to this point, sometimes it’s better to stick with the devil you know and mod that as a known base, but as you say, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Hopefully you’ll enjoy some smooth sailing from here on in, great start you’ve made mate.

Got a new carbon roof on order, should be here next week. Will match the rest of the carbon on the car now as this one is 2x2 weave whereas the one that was on the car was CSL 1x1 weave.

Gone off for paint last week so should have it back in a couple of weeks hopefully ready for March.

Aiming for 1200kg to keep up with @billyboym3 :shades:

Bought some new headlight trims without the washer jet holes so I can get rid of all that gubbins. Every little helps I suppose!
