Due to the rarity of the E46 Silverstone Edition I felt it worthwhile to set up a dedicated thread keeping track of all surviving cars and logging their associated VIN numbers.

If you own a Silverstone Edition it would be appreciated if I could have the last 7 digits of the VIN and whether its SMG or manual which I will log in this OP. If you do not wish to have your VIN publicly associated with your username/reg number by all means PM me and I will just list it as a confirmed VIN without reference to who the owner is.

What is an E46 M3 "Silverstone Edition"?

    From www.BMWMregistry.com:
A limited edition of 50 E46 M3 coupes (plus one pilot car) with BMW Individual paint and interior trim were quietly produced for the UK market during late 2004. Available with either the six-speed manual (30 produced) or six-speed SMG II (20 produced) transmissions, they all received Silverstone metallic (425) paintwork paired to a Dark Estoril Blue extended Nappa leather interior. The interior was additionally equipped with silver Aluminum Cube trim and black floor mats with Dark Estoril Blue leather edges. A generous amount of regular series options were also included, such as the Harmon/Kardon audio system, satellite navigation with TV function and 19-inch forged M Double Spoke alloy wheels.

Silverstone Edition cars are rumoured to have been allocated to various motoring related celebrities throughout the UK. This needs confirming by someone who either is the 1st owner, or knows who the first owner of their car was - Evidence from one owner suggests this is not true.

All cars were built between 29th November and 21st December 2004 with a VIN range between PP86780 and PP86935 on Production line 3 which is where all the right hand drive special models such as Individuals, Silverstone Editions, CS' and CSLs were built for all right hand drive markets (predominently Japan, Aus and UK).

Pilot Car - This "S54 Edition" car (interior photo below) was produced as a Pilot Car and presented to BMW Marketing for authorisation to go ahead with the Production run. Fortunately (because its disgusting) the marketing department didn't like the blue gearknob and handbrake gaiter so this was scrapped for the official run:

Photos of your Silverstone Edition Car are welcome!

Here's some of mine, and its true this colour looks miles better in the flesh, and in anything other than a bright sunny day photographs just don't do the sparking paintwork any justice at all:

Interesting that you've verified 9 of the 20 manuals, but only 2 of the 30 SMG ones. Do SMG owners not want to admit it? [just kidding!!]

    Such a nice colour.

Used to see a lovely one around the Charlton area shopping complex from time to time.

If you send of a form from the dvla number v888, you can get the history of the car and copies of the previous owners log books. I've done it on an old escort and got all the info. That will tell you if it was famous owners who bought them first.

Silverstone blue was an Individual option for a short period of time in 2002 before being withdrawn. So there are a few non-Silverstone Edition early cars around. The Estoril Blue leather is the easiest way to be sure its the real thing.

I'd like to do that on my Escort. First owner, if they're still alive, would have a shock to find she's still in good health. (I'm the 5th owner and found her in a scrapyard destined to be crushed).

As for doing it on the Silverstone Editions, I'm not sure I believe it about them going to celebrity owners. The only place I have read that was on a for sale advert at a used car dealer and somewhere on an american forum (which probably originated from the used car dealer's advert), so it could be entirely made up.

I love the seats in your car. I bet they are more comfy than the standard leather. My E36 had half leather and they were the best seats I've ever had in any car.

I would say this but they really are better than leather, cool in summer warm in winter and no need to be heated.I find them a lot grippier as well and they,ve worn really well for their age.

Has to be said though i loved the red leather in my last M3,when they are in excellent condition you,ll be hard pushed to find nicer leather,my dad still talks about them now haha,he has a leather "thing",he,s 74 and has recently bought a leather chair for £2.5k and he reckons its still not as nice as my old car seats:)

I don't even know who designed it. The only big name behind the Escort's success that I know of is Bill Meade.

Thanks to the help of v8rumbler, the Hexagon ultra low mileage car is now confirmed and updated in the header.

One odd thing I happened to notice whilst doing the VIN research, a large majority of Alpine White cars were built for the Japanese market. They bought loads of them. A lot of the ultra rare colours went to Japan and Australia.

Obviously because this chap was a client I can't really say his name.
