Yeah it does, mainly because there’s a tuned note in addition to the debaffling. Some of the other debaffled exhausts I’ve heard are loud but don’t have much of a note...

The inside of his backbox looks similar to the one attached above.

But finding someone who’s willing to do the work has been problematic.

Nevertheless I’ve booked the car in with StyleDynamics who think they can sort me out.

    Fingers crossed

Be careful with super sprint non res x Pipe centre, i put one on mine with the standard back box and it made it sound really weird and also made it quieter than with the original centre with the little box !? Luckily had the original to go back on and fine again and louder again

    Yeah I’ve heard.

The fabricators at StyleDynamics have recommend that I just debaffle the backbox first before installing the SS non res x pipe.

Then if it’s not what I want I can always get it installed afterwards.

No I want to keep the OEM look

I’ll post pics and vids when the work is done.

Okay so the work has been done and results are in.

The guys at StyleDynamics really put in a shift. They worked on my exhaust from 10am until 7pm just to get this job done. It was a ball ache, but it definitely paid off.

Attached below are photos of the process and also a video illustrating the sound.

The car has much more bass in the lower revs, but still maintains the rasp characteristic up top, and also upholds the OEM look.

It might be worth mentioning that the below video was taken the day after the work was done and so the exhaust is not fully broken-in as of yet. After 1,000 miles or so it should be a little deeper.

At the moment I have no plans to install the SS X-pipe but only time will tell.

P.s. this is known on other forums as the "TrueBlue mod" or "Baffle mod".

Thank you for the detailed pictures and the comparison video; they really help illustarte the difference in construction and sound.

I have a scorpion system from the manifold back and it has made a very apparent improvement in low end power and I am curious if you have noticed a difference in performance? Regardless your car sounds great!

Thanks, I felt as if there was knowledge out there on this sort of project, but I wanted to concentrate it all into one thread. (Took me about 2 weeks to source all info on debaffling).

In terms of power I would say the throttle response has improved but I doubt there been any actual low down torque or top end power gains. (I will put the car on the dyno to see what she’s actually running.)

I think the only way to improve low down torque would be to go for the SS X-pipe. Previously I had a SS Y-pipe and SS backbox on my Z4 Coupe and that did make a difference in low down torque.

From my endeavors and only based on my subjective assessment an underdrive pulley kit and a de-cat also helps improve low end torque.

    Depends were you go.

Put it this way. I can buy 6 of these backboxes for the price of one Supersprint Lightweight Race.

    Exhaust update:

I have decided to keep section 2 stock. The exhaust has fully bedded in and provides the sound I desire. It’s great under full pelt, it is not boomy, nor does it drone.

Although the SS X-pipe may improve low end torque, as the one which I would be opting for is not resonated I am concerned about drone. (I don't see the point of the SS resonated X-pipe with my system).

The next step will be to test whether this mod affects the car’s horsepower (whether positively or negatively); and so I will get her on the rollers in due course.

They do but can you really justify spending £1,800 (not including labour) just on changing your motor's exhaust note?
