    I'll be seeing Arran/Amspeed tomorrow, I'll ask him about this magical spool thingy. I had a look at one of their e36s with an S54 today, it looks like they run a cable with a similar setup as what we used to have. I'll let you know what he says.

    I no not exactly ideal but coz you are only at Norwich I am at Diss, if you ever get stuck for getting under the car without laying on your gravel drive i have a pit in my work shop whenever you like.

    Yesterday I met up with evogrant and collected a fuel tank and heat sheild from him, thanks mate!! Good to meet you and have a chat, I was high as a kite by the time I got home, the petrol fumes were emmense haha!! The car is going into the garage next week to have the tank fitted and see if we can track down the nasty noises it's making on deceleration. I'm still not sure if it's the diff or the gearbox. It's strange it only does it on deceleration and not on acceleration, hmmm. I did notice that the electric fan was coming into contact with the thread part that the old viscous fan attaches to but I doubt that was the cause of the noise as it was really loud but I've fixed that now so we will see!
    E36er, if you speak to Arran that would be great, more work trying to cure the throttle feel will be going on this week so if he has a magic fix I'm all ears!!

    Hahahahaha yes was a pleasure mate!

    I had a deceleration rubble/vibration. I only got this after the competition vibratechnics engine mounts and very stiff gearbox mounts. I think it was a worn prop bearing. Maybe something to look at?

    Also dude who did you get your ecu from again? I'm interested in one for mine. If they make one for my setup.

    Hmm, I only replaced the centre bearing and rubber donut thingie not long ago, just before I pulled out the old engine in fact so I hope it's not that. It's going the garage to have the tank changed next week so hopefully we will find the cause of the noise, it's really loud and aggressive noise so it sounds serious haha!! I have my suspicions it's the diff but we will see.
    The ecu came from specialist components. Really happy with them and the service given. I'm sure they can sort you out mate.

    Hey matt, I spoke to Ray and he said your cable will be too tight and its all to do with the angles! So maybe look into that. Hope that helps.

    Hey jonnie, thanks for that. I was thinking it might have something to do with the angles that the rod pulls the throttles at. I've decided to give up and go dbw to be honest. I've worked it out from a cost point of view and I reckon it's the best way to go. I've yet to hear anyone say they've got a cable system to work effectively. I've spoken to specialist components who reckon they can use a cable operated potentiometer to operate the dbw system so i reckon I'll be going with that!!

    Continuing on with the spell of bad luck I appear to be having with the old girl new problems have reared their head!
    After a good day at snett I got the car into the garage to change the leaking fuel tank and see if we could find the source of the noises the car was making on decel, we could find nothing, the centre bearing, donut and all rotating parts wer ok, and the diff which I suspected seems to be fine also. So the car was fixed and I was ready to tackle snetterton on the 14th June. A couple of days before this I took the car out of my garage to do some small jobs like getting the brake lights working and making a simple circuit so I had a light come on the dash if the coolant level dropped low. When I took the car out it was making the most hideous noises, check out these vids, the first one is inside the car and the second one is from the engine bay,

    Not nice, I think something has gone seriously wrong with the spinning bits.
    It goes away when the clutch is depressed as you can here from the interior vid and it goes away if the car is revved slightly. My money is on the flywheel bolts coming loose but when I done the conversion they were threadlocked and torqued up so I'm not sure why. My concern is that they have pulled the threads from the crank and knackered that!! I reckon this was the start of the nasty noises on decel and has finally let go.
    So it back to the garage to find out the problem and hopefully get it fixed without a remortgage!
    On better news I have been speaking with specialist components who are going to fit a remote cable operated potentiometer which will run the dbw system so I can get rid of the cable operation and hopefully get a better accelerator pedal set up.
    Hopefully all this will be done in the next 3 weeks and I'm aiming to get to snett on the 20th July. Fingers crossed on that one!!

    Sound the same as when my flywheel bolts failed. Noise stopped when I pressed clutch in. Nice build I'm doing same to mine but using the pedal from e46

    Woohoo!! The car is fixed again. Once the gearbox had been removed it was obvious to see the flywheel was loose, all of the bolts were finger tight and one had backed out a good 10mm or so. I'm guessing my ultra high quality aldi torque wrench wasn't up to the job when I fitted the engine, needless to say that now in the bin!!
    Luckily no damage had been done to anything so the bolts were cleaned up, new threadlocked applied and retorqued. It was all put back together and it back to sounding normal. Well as normal as a stripped out car with a lightweight flywheel can sound so it's still bloody noisy haha!!
    So with that done and not a massive hole in the bank balance its onwards with more stuff, ive got a replacement aluminium power steering tank which I'm going to install along with AN braided lines and fittings which should completely remove the leaky power steering problems, I have a very jazzy rear diffuser to fit which I think looks the tits but I doubt it will do much for downforce, this will be attached to a second hand m3 rear bumper I have sourced, I've just got to drop it off at the painters first.
    Hack engineering have supplied me with one of their strut braces that are specially designed for an s54 powered e36 so I can't wait for that to turn up and get fitted!!
    I'm also hoping to find some time to strip out all the wiring, do a full rewire with trips instead of fuses, wire up the digital data logging dash and add a few other bits and get it to specialist components to convert it to dbw.
    I'm booked on a snetterton on July 20th so it's all to do haha!!

    So while the car is away at specialist components having some work done on converting the throttle to dbw I have been collecting a few parts awaiting it's return,
    First up is a rear diffuser, I'm not so sure how much downforce it will create if any but I think it looks cool and that's good enough for me haha,

    Next up is a new aluminium power steering tank, this will replace the old leaky one and I'm going to make up some braided lines with banjo fittings to stop the leaky system once and for all!

    I've also got a new front strut brace, a normal e36 strut brace won't fit once the s54 has been fitted but I heard hack engineering were have some braces custom made so I got one of them ordered. Big thanks to Ben at hack for awesome service and a really really nice product. I can't wait to get this on as it looks great and the quality is superb!!

    Last up, I had done a deal with fellow cutter marrow for his carbon airbox. I know this had been damaged at some point but it has been repaired well and I think it has been hydro dipped. It's not perfect but I'm over the moon with it for the money and my car is no show pony so as long as it makes noise and frees up a few hp I'm a happy bunny. Fingers crossed I can get this on and have the car rolling road tuned before snetterton on the 20th.

    Haha, unfortunately I cannot buy skill or maybe I could lol!!

    Thanks mate, I like it! It will probably act more like a parachute but they do look cool fitted! I've got a m3 bumper at the painters so I can fit the whole lot when it gets back.

    I can't do the 17th, I've promised the missus I'd go to visit the in laws. Shame cos I know where I would rather be haha!!

    Tricky decision indeed, but I've got a new road car to play with and the in laws live a good drive away so it's not so bad!!
    I didn't book with eddy, I just went with msv. I didn't realise the evening thing was going on until after I booked it. I might stay for the evening though. I'll see how the day goes haha!!

    So some mixed emotions coming away from snetterton today, a mix of good stuff and bad.
    Firstly the car had been with specialist components to sort out a dbw throttle system, after some messing around fabricating brackets and getting the system set up it now works perfectly, on track today was a revalation, much smoother throttle. Very happy with this, I'm also having them set me up with some switchable maps for wet sessions, dry sessions etc so that is very cool.
    I also managed to find time to fit the strut brace which had been supplied by hack engineering. This is a lovely piece of kit and fitted perfectly straight away. It's nice and beefy to,

    Sorry about the sketchy pics, I was in a rush. This really seems to have improved turn in as well and improved the overall feel at the track. Big thumbs up for this piece.

    Then it all went wrong :mad:
    Today was roasting at snetterton, perfect for slicks and giving it a good go. After a few good morning sessions and seeing my lap times starting to improve, the nasty noises I was getting on decel came back, worse, and louder. This was accompanied by driveline vibration and horrendous noise. I reckon the diff is fubar but I'm not sure. Whilst parked up in the garage as we had a lunch break I rolled the car back to find a big pool of oil on the floor. Not good. I can't see exactly where it's coming from but it looks like it's around the gearbox bell housing area. God knows what's causing that.
    The power steering shat itself again. Twice. Hateful car.
    And the smell of fuel was horrendous all day, I removed the cover from the drivers side and it's wet with fuel so it's obviously leaking or not sealed properly in that area. I've only just had the tank changed so I guess it's gonna be back to the garage. Maybe. Hateful car.
    I think I may have just had enough, I'm gonna sit on it for a couple of days till I've calmed down a bit cos the way I feel right now I'm thinking of selling the lot and getting out of the trackday game as I'm just not enjoying it anymore or breaking the car to sell for parts. What would you do?

    This is just what happens when you push the limits - its properly soul destroying but this sort of pain will make you appreciate the effort in the end. Stick with it and tie up the loose ends! go and have a few beers and forget about it for a few days.
