I had that same prop after changing my rack and bottle. was leaking out the top of the pipe and running down to the pump making it look like the banjo was leaking. new jubilee clip well tightened sorted it.
anyone got any ideas of how to get these cars to talk to a code reader?
yeah the HP line is deffo a leak at the central union, ive wiped it down and its appears again only in the middle and no track marking where its run down. Ive ordered a new bottle and cap and a new pump to bottle pipe, the other one is the one with cooler pipes on it. I will have that off and put a new jubilee clip on it and see if it helps, but if its gone crusty then it may need a new pipe.

^Anything that does not have the OBDII 16 pin socket does not meet the OBDII standard, even if it will talk OBDII with a 16 pin to 20 pin adapter.
Easiest thing for an E36 which will get 80%ish of modules is a £3 Vag com / /OBDII / /kKL USB lead from china with a 16 pin to 20 pin adapter and INPA
Best thing for an E36 is an ADS interface which necessitates having a laptop or PC with serial and INPA etc.
If you don't care about the ADS stuff and just want to access engine the first answer applies
Ah, not a totally easy solution for me. I’m Mac based, I’ll have to have a search to see if any of the cables from China come with inpa for Mac....
On today’s car pulling apart story, I’ve pulled out all the injectors and have ordered a refurb kit for them.
However I have also ordered a set of these, which looking in a few places seem to work.
BOSCH 0280155832 injectors from the Volvo S80. There are loads of new ones out there at the moment on EBay, but I couldn’t find any used sets in the UK, so I went with new, the original BMW ones are discontinued I’m sure that Bmw could supply them but at stupid money, I’m still going to clean and refurb the old ones so they can go back in if the new ones don’t work.
Think there is a few cars with these in - put a set in mine 3 months ago and it has made the car drive much nicer and pass MOT emissions which it was struggling with before . Problem being , how much of the improvement is just because the old ones were tired . They do work ok tho - Steve.
i have run the pinks for a few years, but my car is mapped to Alpha N.
Tim S had a look at them and although they work on a stock map they run lean in places.

Be careful with the injector rebuild kit. the replacement pintle caps do not fit as tight as oem, meaning they drop off and into the cylinder.
you can run a windows VM on your mac and run INPA there. pretty sure there is no version for mac.
It’s an idea, I have had a look in the loft and have an old windows machine so will try and get that running.

Interesting about the guy who specialises in rebuilding Getrag boxes, the intro on his website reads well. Being able to rebuild them implies he has a source of individual gears in case he needs to replace gears that are worn or have chipped teeth. Maybe they are standard off the shelf items.
Was that price he quoted for a complete strip down, inspection, rebuild and paint? If so its not bad considering you should get a gearbox near to as new tolerances and condition.
that was the price for a full rebuild, not sure on painting as its bare metal from the factory.
I would assume that would be on the basis that all the gearsets were intact and it just needed bearings and seals, but its probably best to contact him direct seemed like a helpful chap.
if he was doing enough of them could he not just get his own copies made?

Original injectors were driven down to Swadlincote diesel, who are a Bosch service centre and a local injector specialist, took them mon lunch and they were ready for collection on tues at 10.30. He put them on their ASNU machine and flow and pat tested them. They were all hunky dory, but they did a service on them in any case, new rings, and an ultrasonic clean and cleaned them up . All back in and running. Pinks are on the side, as a future project....
Tip on removal and refitting.
I couldn't get all the injectors and the rail feeds to line up at the same time. So instead of leaving the rail feed pillars on the car, I took them off and attached them to the rail with their clips and then refitted as a whole. had to prod a couple of rings in a smidge as they caught. but it all went home with a nice free movement.
Another top tip. Don't get over excited and accidentally turn on the key while the rail is off pump on.....fuel everywhere......:roflmao:
can someone point me to the lead I need on ebay to get laptop diagnostics workin pls, there are lots which look the same....
Also is there a good place to get INPA?
red rubber grease on the injector seals and everything just slots together
hadn't got any of that so just used a bit of 5w40.

Ok my old laptop is dead, so ive nicked the mrs laptop...... is this the cable I need to make the E36 talk to the laptop. I have a 16-20 round pin adaptor already, so thats OK. I think the mistake I was making was to put BMW in the search box too.
the question about INPA stands. Ive seen some for sale on Ebay for a few quid some say they work with an E 36 some not, is there a version to look out for?
I found an install video on YouTube to get mine working which included links to the software in the description.
I'll see if I can find it. I tried a few other versions but had issues getting them to run properly.
Any version of inpa should work with the e36, it's the cabling which is more fussy. Mine works fine with a USB- serial adapter with serial to obd2 cable and obd2 - e36 round connector.
