E36 M3 totally original vs some mods? Hurt resale value?

    All that matters is the owner is happy

    Close thread, it pointless. The resale value of a car never being sold is a moot point

    Very true however I don't want to make the mistake that some have made with E30 M3's to later deeply regret it... if it was to just be used I would be smashing it round a track right now lol :rolleyes:

    When I was selling it a few years ago, I thought my car was one of the best examples about, the chap that left me a deposit came down and swore blind that the rear quarter panels had been replaced and depended his moneys back, which got me thinking that one day if I do decide to sell what else would cause a problem.... clearly its never had 1/4 panels...

    Yeah wouldn't sell the sump, have it all sealed if someone wanted it swapped back over I could do that.

    But what about uprated connecting rods, would that put you off a sale? because I wouldn't offer to replace them etc

    makes the engine bullet proof as the carrillo rods are rated at 800bhp lol...

    Well it won’t increase the value of an original reasonably low mileage car.

    Do as you please and if it come sale time, I wouldn’t even declare the updated connecting rods, what they don’t know isn’t going to affect them!!

    On the Gold Coast. Yes: its a UK personal import as worked for the NHS in central London for two and a bit years.

    It's a great car and rare in the UK. Very rare in Aus. I think a number like 6 in the country is what I have heard bandied about.

    i wouldn't worry about the alloy doors. my 95 (Previously Avus) 3.0 had alloy doors from the factory.

    I wouldn't change the rods as ultimately its not a bolt on bolt off modification which the others you mentioned are. Alternatively, just change them and never speak of it if you want the peace of mind, unless you mention it, no one will know.

    I've done plenty a modding. But everything is 100% reversible, including all wiring.

    But if it's an obvious improvement over stock, I doubt anyone, even the most purists like myself, would take offense.

    And then they could bring it back to stock themselves if wanted.

    That's the whole OEM+ philosophy.

    I think it all boils down to the individual.

    I for one would look at the mods and ask myself why they have done this.

    So fitting the GT cam, mapping it, uprating the bolts and shells, faster steering rack and suspension would tell me this car has seen tracks or been driven hard. That is what would put me off.

    Changing bits that can be reverted and keeping the originals then yes, but you would have to change it back to standard before selling IMO.

    The engine mods, although great mods points towards it being driven hard which is a game changer and something that would make myself look elsewhere.

    No matter how hard you tried to tell me it has never seen a track, I probably wouldn't have got to the point of calling after seeing the list of mods.

    All my opinion and everyone is different.

    I'm not trying to sound an arse mate but most of these cars have been driven hard. Even if you bought yours at 30k you can be sure someone has kicked it's arse relentlessly for a good portion of the mileage. My last evo spent mosy of its time on the rev limiter, its just tge way it is. When I sold it I wouldnt have told the New owner it's done more track days than I've had hot dinners. The "signs" that a car has had track use or been driven hard should not mean it's in bad health or been neglected, on the contrary. I think some people do kid themselves. As usual, this is just my opinion.:thumbsup:

    not any more where they are glorified piggy banks. I purposfully bought a cheap cat D one as I wanted a project where I wouldnt be afraid to drive the doors off it.

    I used to come out of the industrial estate where I had my garage sideways every night. The rev limiter was the gear change indicator. It's just how it was. It used to drink fuel and eat tyres and brakes but took it all in it's stride. Me and a mate used it for a track day once and took it in turns to drive. It would come in after a session and we would swap over. It was relentless. On the way home we had a tussle with a 996 Turbo, poor thing was flat out constantly for miles on end. It never missed a beat. Total respect, loved that car and regretted the sale. I wouldn't drive like that now, no way. The car was AMAZING though.

    I totally agree, with the above statement.
    My baby is driven hard at driver trainings :muttley:

    But I'm also lucky enough to be able to maintain it to a standard that matches my driving enthusiasm.

    I wish I had thought to do the same while I was over there, but I spent all my money travelling and partying haha.

    6 sounds about right, I've only seen two around. A white one in Perth with a busted SMG and an orange one in QLD.
