Not much progress to update on mine, it was dropped off at the body shop on Saturday for the paintwork. Can't wait to see it all done!
Once mine was dropped off we cracked on with my mate's matching 98'

Car is getting picking up from the body shop this afternoon, it was slightly delayed after all the bad weather last week. I'll see it later and get some pictures to post!
Not much has moved on since the last update, main job was cleaning up the door cards and swapping the handles over. Look so much better!
Few more parts arrived, I've got a long list to fit now!
15mm wheel spacers for the front
I think having the correctly spaced wheels is one mod that is quite frequently overlooked. Look forward to seeing these go on.
Quick update, the car was picked up from the body shop last night. I asked them to take some photos during the process so I have something for the history of the car, here's what they sent:
On the surface it looked really good
Unfortunately on closer inspection there are several things that need sorted.
A small hair/thread that landed on the boot lid paint before it was lacquered:
A lacquer run on one mirror:
A massive mismatch between old vs new (this was supposed to be blended):
Masking tape marks on the rear arch:
Needless to say I was on the phone to the owner of the place first thing in the morning to discuss all of these, he handled it well and is sorting all of the issues for me. He's also offered a massively discounted price for adding the drivers side to the respray to remove any blending issues (the blend on the boot to drivers side wasn't on my original request). The car is now back with them and I'm expecting it back Monday/Tuesday.
The seat mounts have come back from being anodised and look fantastic!
I agree. I've always thought the front looks a bit narrow, hopefully this fixes it!
With the car back from the body shop I started putting the car back together with help from my mate, it still needs to go back in for one last job but it's 90% there now. We are heading up to Scotland to do the North Coast 500 in the M3s next week so the attention has turned from the jobs that are nice to do to the essential ones I want to get done.
Removing over spray from the previous poor paint job on the passenger side:

Old scuttle was all cracked so this was replaced
Lots of crap to clean out from underneath
Other side was the same
Fresh one fitted (yes I know the engine desperately needs a clean)
Seat mounts in passenger side
Seat belt buckle mounting
Another custom part my mate made for me, some spacers for the seat belt mounting. I will spray these black when I get a chance.
I had the front wheels off for another job so put the spacers on when I refitted them, filling out the arches nicely now. Looking forward to seeing how it looks with the coilovers too!
Nice project, handy to have some one with CNC tooling on hand!
Shame about the poor effort from the bodyshop, at least its sorted.
PS - me and few friends decided against North Coast 500 due to the stone chip/ poor roads in parts of the loop for lowered cars (have seen an M3 post where the chap need a bonnet/ bumper respray and another post from a ferrari owners club) - stay at the front of the pack lol
Yeah I've read it's pretty bad for chips! I've got full bonnet and bumper protection film coming this week to fit before we go to hopefully protect it from the worst of it.
Fingers crossed it keeps it protected, look forward to seeing the pictures from the trip, do plan to complete it at some point but probably not in the M3
There's only two of us so we'll stay a sensible distance apart, I'm sure it will be fine! I've seen some pretty low cars doing it so not sure why you couldn't?
Some of the clips on the front left grille were broken when the front bumper picked up a dent (this was fixed during the respray) so it didn't sit flush.

The freshly resprayed sill going back on with a new seal. I couldn't believe the seals were £55 a side for a rubber strip!
Next it was time for me to almost get stuck in the wheel arch putting on the new coilovers

It should handle like an M now! No pictures of it on the coilovers yet as it was late when I finished and the ride height is wayyy too low. Looks a bit mcdonalds car park at the moment until I sort it on the weekend.
The original shocks will be getting tucked away in the back of the garage, I'm keeping all the stuff I swap out to be able to put it back to fully original when I choose to.

More jobs done over the weekend, first was 4 x new OEM brake discs and the PFC pads. I gave them a few coats with VHT high temp paint to help stop them rusting:
I was intending to get the brake calipers done before I did the discs and pads but I ran out of time due to the delays at the bodyshop, they are booked in with BCS for W/C 9th April when I'm back from Scotland.

Here's a side shot to show the ride height now. I've got the dampers on fully soft front and rear with no preload (spring rates 8 & 6) and it rides really nicely on the road, not too harsh at all with brilliant grip.
Final job of the day, a fresh M3 badge going on (I managed to chip the side of the old one getting it off!)
The North Coast 500 trip went well, we did 2000 miles over 10 days and drove some fantastic roads. Here's some pictures in no particular order:
The car did pick up one injury along the way (about 3 or 4 days in) which was the manifold breaking at the flange which connects it to the cat section. This is clearly a weak point on the car as my friend had exactly the same problem 3 weeks before we left, at least we know the (pain in the ****) process to remove the manifold for welding.
I managed to pick up some repair tape and gum from a garage local to where we are staying to patch up a rough repair. Knowing what these cars are like I had brought a jack, stands and full tool kit with me for repairs along the way.
This held up surprisingly well until I hit it on a cattle grid driving in to the shooting centre which cracked it wide open again and the car sounded like a tractor again. I kept picking up more tape and gum along the way, spending a small fortune, and gave up towards the end when it kept giving way. To add to it the flexi pipe snapped too and looking under the car this was probably caused by a massive lack of clearance on the exhaust section.
Comparing this to my friends car this isn't right so I'll need to check all the mounts to find out why it's so low.
The car is now back up on the stands in the driveway to get this work done.
I took the calipers off first as these are now with the Brake Caliper Specialists for a rebuild (with OEM parts I've sent them) and refurb.
Hoping to make progress with these jobs over the next couple of weeks so will post updates.
