Anyone got any pointers?
Have you contacted abs motorsport?
No, they only list a single skin version on their site so figured that was all they had available.
May be worth a poke though.
I have dropped Pesch a line but they are a nightmare to deal with and i suspect postage will be horrible
Try here mate,
They claim their bootlid is double skinned, could be just the job?
I have a double skinned lid that I wanted to change for a single skin lid but mine has been cut about to take a Geoff steel spoiler so I doubt it would be any good for you?
When you say cut, cut in the middle or at the sides?
EDIT: just bought the unique customs one, for the price its a no brainer
Nice one bud
How’s the mean machine coming on?
Not done a lot, been mental at work and working on other bits of it.
Essentially i bought an ex Belgian pro car airbox and sold the one i made years ago. having sold that one i discovered the one from the pro car didn't fit as it was designed to run a central collector and i think run a dry sump, so i hacked it to pieces and re did it, the velocity stacks were also a joke so i re did all those. Also made up a new brake kit as i was semi gifted some parts and some serious pagid pads.
On the body front i have welded up all the rivet holes in the shell, re made the rear shelf from aluminum, fitted a perspex window kit and i will be ordering the GTR body shortly.
I think i finally found the one, its expensive when delivery is factored in from finland, but its by far the closest one to the dtm prototype i have found.
Awesome, I’m glad you found a kit you liked in the end, I’d love to see it at some point.
Shame about the airbox but that’s all part of the game isn’t it?
Sounds like the shell is coming on too, won’t be long now till you are back on the track mate
Good find that's cheap.
The good thing about this is that its never been off the track (other than when it had no inlet for a week) as i am building up the other shell as a standalone, then once its complete all the running gear will be moved over.
Keen to get this shell where i want it so no rush,, just stripping all the sealer off so it can get stitched as well
I used to have the inner skin mould but only ever sold 1 in 10 years so dumped it last year sadly..
Quite surprised on that really, A mate of mine just ordered a double skin this morning lol
But then i suppose its not a bling bling part or anything so no road cars would want it.
For me i just donlt want a boot full of water sloshing over my fuel pumps and senders and as i run an ATL fuel cell i need to be able to open the boot easily, Ollie was in the same position so went for the same solution
Understand, we used to just add a foam seal round the boot aperture, our biggest pain was taking the boot lid off all the time then where to put it, i presume with that setup its a race car ? as most race guys dont worry about water ingress it is all about weight sadly
Yea, bit of competition but mostly trackdays. that was my other concern, when you take the ba$tard off and the wind takes it across the paddock
To be honest i just don't think i am a good enough driver that the weight saving between the two will make a lot of difference (obviously i could say the same for steel Vs glass but i don't actually have a boot lid on my new shell so it makes sense to get an GRP one.
I looked around for a while for a double skin saloon boot but quickly gave up. I wasn't overly concerned with the weight saving, more that all e36 boot lids seem to rust eventually so wanted a nice clean rust proof one that would fit as per standard.
Unique customs look to sell one, when mine arrives i can tell you if its any good
