I've had my BMW M4 for 18 months now and wanted a proper wheel alignment. I originally had an appointment with Automek but I had to cancel for good reason at the time. Unfortunately they only work weekdays and I really needed a weekend appointment so decided on Dentec Scotland who live close to me and are BMW approved.

I drop the M4 off with them at 8:30am. I have a Dashcam that runs over 4G so I can watch whats going on.

I noticed they put a big sign on my car

"DASHCAM - This Vehicle is fitted with a dashcam!! Please ensure you conduct yourself professionally on all occasions!!"

Now I understand this is a garage and mechanics have a laugh as they work so I understand the reason for this. However it does make me thing what they would do if I didn't have the dashcam.

I then notice the mechanic starts to take my car out on a test drive on the public roads before the alignment, never has this been required on any wheel alignment I've had in the past. This starts to ring alarm bells for me.

He drives back in 5 minutes later and then performs the wheel alignment. Once finished he starts talking to the other guys in the workshop while driving my car off the Hunter. He said he just felt like taking my car out for a "Jaunder" but it had a dashcam so he couldn't do what he wanted. The other mechanic said "I just unplug them". He then proceed to say my car suited him and revved it for a bit. He then said job complete and didn't test drive it again. Surely if the initial test drive was important you would perform a second drive afterwards.

At this point I just wanted my car back asap. Paid my bill and told them I would never use them again.

The problem for me is that if I did not have the dashcam they would have had no issues with rallying my car about the streets. My car is not a toy for them to play with. I've paid for a service not for them to have a joyride.

So personally I would never use them again. I couldn't find any reviews before I booked with them so wanted to let everybody know my experience.

I will definitely use Automek going forward.

They are in the Clyde Gateway - just 5 mins drive from Parkhead.

I believe they used to be in Rutherglen and moved there a year or so ago.

Automek did mine recently, got everything bang on equal side to side, including adjustable top mounts.

Happy with their work and would recommend

    £114 all in.

I should also note another minor annoyance. They changed my seat settings and then saved it over my presets...who does that! Still can't get it back to how it was.

    Hi Martin,

Really? Wish I had known that. Will do that next time. Always had great service from the guys at BMW Hamilton.

I'm sure the last time I asked in my e92 M3 it was £250 so that was the only reason I didn't ask again.

    Cheers

I know it sounds silly but I never leave my car anywhere unless theres a serious fault to be investigated.

Services: I tell them ill wait for it and usually its done in 2-3 hours
    Alignments: I watch over them
    Tyres: I watch them
    Brakes: I wait

If its possible for me to wait and get my car back in 2-3 hours, I wait. I never leave my car

I have always used Pro-Grip in Falkirk for E92 M3, no test drives, does the job while you wait and always happy to chat about the set up. Full Hunter kit and knows his stuff.

Out of interest, how much do they charge for wheel alignment on E92 M3.

    Thanks

Bloody hell thats crazy. It's not some rare Koenigsegg we own, generally it's a run of the mill BMW.

Just take the car to trustworthy places surely? What is watching over someone doing your tyres going to achieve if really worried just get a check sheet signed to confirm no damage to wheels before you begin as it is STS Pro's near me photo all the wheels before they even go near removing them so no customer can complain.

Garage I use for servicing makes me do a walk around with them to check for any damage and sign in agreement before car's moved from when I've parked.

Alignment I had 'THEY' installed Dashcams should anything occur or I want to see footage and did a test drive and invited me on it and explained the reasons which all made perfect sense. For a full chassis tune / set up they needed to make sure firstly there wasn't any strange noises, knocking and how the car was pre-set up running to make notes on it's behaviour.

So in reality what I'm seeing is reputable garages are actually covering themselves now again 'false' claims. Obviously not the case with the OP on here but it's not to difficult to tell the difference between cowboys and professionals.
