Never come with the o-rings as they’re not part of the thermostat, they are used for joining the thermostat housing to the block. You can order them separately, part number should be on realoem.

I didn’t replace them and didn’t have any issues.

Same, just be careful you don't damage them and you can reuse. Some people have replaced for piece of mind but you need to get them from a BMW dealer.

Tip for stat is to use a syringe to empty the header tank first so you don't lose the fluid when you remove the cover. Easy job to do when you are doing throttle actuators too.

Following on from this and eventually thought I’d test the temperature so plugged in my Carly to see what readings I had, now either my sensor is completely buggered or the Carly Isn’t reading the codes right?

I do wonder if this has anything to do with the strange readings I get on the display saying -24?
[IMG]20200522_194649 by Jamie Milling, on Flickr

These reading were when the car was up to temperature as well?

Also just for info here are all the part numbers for the list on post 14

    Thermostat (Mahle THD 1 79) 11537836155
    Temperature sensor 13621433076
    4 x O-rings 11531406249

if anyone knows of any other parts needed as a “might as well be changed at the same time” job that would be great

The first screenshot means you have a broken coolant temperature sensor.

The -24 value is the music track number you’re listening to!

True, however only 2 will be disturbed when you remove the housing and 2 will stay in place so if you really want to change o-rings then just changing 2 is OK

    :D
I'm not so sure that Carly water temp reading means your sensor is fubared, I didn't think Carly could read water temp for some reason, my car also gives the same reading for water temp as you car. I'm going to look into it a bit more.
I'd be surprised if a bust water temp sensor didn't light up the dash like a Christmas tree, anything else wrong on these cars does:D
