I see they have just locked down Tenerife ? its getting bad !!
And all we can think of is tell people to ring 111 or whatever it is if they feel ill after returning from foreign parts.
It's a good job it didn't start here. We'd have been in a right mess now.
I've got a mate stuck in Tenerife, it was the Sandstorm yesterday and now Coronavirus.
Tough break for him.
I cannot understand why when it was found in Wuhan all flights weren't suspended in or out.
Unbelievable isn’t it. The guy that died of it in Paris was an 80yr old Chinese tourist from that province - so irresponsible it’s beggars belief
If this spreads the way they say it does containment now is never going to work just to little to late as the horse has already bolted, is there no cure in sight yet?
My sister has been told to stay in her house (came back from Venice 3 days ago) she’s got a bad cold etc so has her partner!
I was planning to take a couple holidays abroad in April & May to non-infected countries.
Now I'm seriously considering cancelling both trips. Absolutely lost, no idea what to do.
Anyone else in the same position?
Perhaps not the best time for travel
Theres too many parasites on this rock anyway.
Sorry but its true.
I fear we’re not getting the whole story, partly as they don’t fully understand it yet, but I think there may also be some information suppression. I find it odd that little is being reported in areas such as the Middle East* and Africa. I mention those as war, poverty and poor education are a perfect background for an epidemic to turn to pandemic unless governments control travel and exports.
* this just in, just read Iran has now reported instances, possibly Afghanistan too. I see Pakistan and Turkey have now closed borders also, and Turkey is one country I’d be worried about where Europe is concerned, as “the gateway to the east”....
My mates theory is that the US created the virus to hit China's economy, and gave the antidote to a few countries (including UK), hence why nobody has died in US/UK/Australia. Is it just me, or does the UK government not seem very bothered tbh?
well it’d be a good script for sure, and tbh, I did consider it’s creation/release possibly being deliberate.
Notice how smug DPRK is? Just sayin’....
We'll never know. But it wouldn't surprise me if it were true.
I was in Singapore, Malaysia and Bali in January when it really kicked off and they seem to thing that China's numbers for both infected and deaths are much higher than reported.
With regards to coming home, we flew Changi to Frankfurt to Glasgow and nowhere had any guidance or checks for the virus.
When we got home on Sunday 2nd February I had an email from my work giving me 2 weeks off to quarantine, paid ofcourse. Someone had complained that there was nothing in place to protect them from a potential outbreak. After 2 weeks I was to get a report from a medical professional stating that I was fit to return to work.
I called doctors, told me to call NHS who told me to call an 0800 number which was the virus hotline. Their words were "You haven't been to China so you'll be fine".
Granted I am fine and no symptoms but the UK seems pretty relaxed about it.
I was planning on going to ROME over Easter!
There is a conspiracy theory saying it was created in a chemical warfare lab and deliberately released.
Presume you're cancelling?
The whole thing is very odd, and we're certainly not being told the whole truth.
Either way, with the amount of international travel we do nowadays, it's literally impossible to contain the problem. I'd lay a bet the virus is already doing the rounds in the UK undetected. Think about the amount of people travelling into the UK from around the world every hour, and how many of those are likely to have contracted it. A 14 day incubation period would mean literally thousands could be arriving each day without symptoms.
The best we can hope for is that it doesn't take a grip too quickly and overwhelm our already inadequate health service.
