Bit of advice needed here. Have any of you replaced the standard fit hifi speakers with 2-way components? If so, which front/rear outputs did you use (tweeter, mid or bass) and did you use the components crossover?

I aske because I've changed out the original BMW Speakers in my 04 'vert - it's SatNav/HiFi with Carphonics BM54 Stage 2. I've put a set of Audison Prima APK6.5 components in the front and Hertz Dieci DSK130.3 components in the back. The sound isn't great and I suspect it's because I've used the tweeter and bass outputs without crossover in the front. I have heard that the BM54 outputs are filtered for high pass and low pass which can make it difficult to get better sound.
    Any help/advice would be appreciated

You definitely need the crossovers. Makes a big a difference.
