I've pretty much made my mind up that I'm going to get out of the RS5 and seek to replace it with an older M4 vert.

The whole COVID-19 situation coupled with the miles that I actually do has me questioning the value of paying so much a month on a car. I've never had a convertible and have always secretly fancied one. The idea of an M4 vert with a tin roof covers all bases.

I'm looking at a couple of cars on Auto Trader. None nearby but both who will offer delivery and I know it's boring as feck for you but I'd be really grateful if any of those in the know could give me their opinion on these as I'm a little bit clueless on the must-haves and things to look out for on these (especially when its a car that's out of dealer warranty).

This is the one I really like (minus the daft window tints which they'll remove)

Any help and opinions on these and anything else I need to know about would be much appreciated lads.

Same situation as myself. Never had a vert before and went for it.
Its SORN'd and garaged at the moment as I am preparing the M3 for sale plus the M4 is waiting to have a load of mods go on it when my tech gets back from Poland in a couple week.

    Both examples look good.
Make sure you are aware of the drain hole issues with the verts. Rear quarter getting filled up with water.
Its basically a bad design and you need to remove the drain hole covers.

Check the movement of the roof in that its all free flowing. I seen one car where it was catching and had damaged the paint work. The mechanism need adjusting but it also revealed in hindsight that the vehicle had a rear end collision which HPI didnt reveal.

Black one looks the better car by a country mile.
Main thing on these of that age (I believe), is to check if its had the drainage work done. They leaked into the rear nearside where the expensive amplifier is situated. Have known of a few that have had blown amps as a result.

Black one is nicely specced, however they are a PITA to keep clean. As others have said, check the drainage plugs, mine has filled up twice now - ridiculous design flaw :(

er... why not just buy an AUC one at those prices?

https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/202007211513222?quoteref=664e8eb9-5928-48db-9b03-3660beb7ca08 this ones a 16 plate, similar spec in silverstone blue and they will deliver and it will have a AUC warranty?

or go a little bit older and get the V8 from a BMW dealer on a 13 plate

I saw that. You can get pics of it here: https://www.stratstone.com/search/d...-ov16eue/?campaign=7-day-money-back-guarantee. Decent spec but looks a bit bland to me. I'm fed up with black interiors. No interest in going back to an E92 at this stage.

Thanks for the heads up on that. When you say "drainage work done". What exactly does that entail? is it a BMW workshop campaign or is it just a case of removing the plugs as M3707 said?

I've had a chat with the dealer on the black one. Offering me a couple of hundred quid shy of my settlement figure on the RS5 and the cars just been serviced by BMW when they got it last month. It came to them from an Audi dealer that took it as a part-ex. I'm waiting for a video.

you really can't beat the experience of a convertible!
Again as others have said, buy an AUC if you can and ask them to check the drain holes before delivery if possible. Other than that just monitor them. I have had two convertibles and as long as the drains are clear they tend to stay clear as long as you don't park it under lots of trees.

Black one is a nice spec but can't say I could cope with the OCD it causes but if your happy with it then its great colour.

I've not had a black car for a while and to be honest I've got OCD with any colour and like detailing. I've also been talking about going down the stealthed out route for years. Problem is with going down AUC is that they're offering bottom dollar for my Audi as most won't retail it themselves. Those videos with the water draining out are a real eye opener! I'll definitely ask about this.

I’ve just bought a vert, very happy with it I drove both an M4 and M4 CP and preferred the M4 CP over the standard car.

make sure it has the convertible comfort pack which gives you the wind deflector (make sure it’s present) and also neck warmers in the head rests. Tbh I don’t use them allot but the seats don’t look right with out them in my opinion!

I had the drainage issue in my 430d vert but bmw sorted it out last time as was under warranty.

The Black vehicle is the better of the two.
The spec is decent and it looks well in those photos.
Mind like you I would be getting the pimp my ride tints removed.
I bought one earlier this year and I must admit I love the thing.
It offers the best of both worlds with the roof down in the sun and that hard top to keep it feeling like any other car when the weather is less kind.
Hope you get a decent one as there has been a recent thread on here where someone bought a vehicle and needed to return it as there were various issues.
Might be worth the travel to get to see what you are buying.
My friend has just bought a BMW from London and traveled from Durham City to view and buy it.

I'll be honest, there's no way I'm going all the way down there to view a car, however, they're going to deliver it to me FOC and collect the RS5. Based on everything I've heard so far as long as the HPI is ok and the roof and drainage issue is ok, I think I'm going to go for it. If they turn up with it and it's not as described I'll just reject it and keep the RS5 on the driveway. They do seem like a good outfit and have good reviews across the web.

The car seems to stack up well but as always buying a car is a bloody lottery!

They've sent me a couple of videos. What do you reckon guys?

Looks mint in the video how exciting. There’s around 4K worth of carbon on there (if genuine front and rear bits ) which if it didn’t have you would be adding at your cost , so that’s a real bonus . Perfect interior lovely colour .
My only concern would be as it’s had all the carbon added did this map the car ? Can’t you tell with the power screen if it’s gone over the standard power ? Maybe ask them to check it with bmw at there cost as you definitely don’t want a mapped car before you take delivery

Might be worth looking on Car Dealer reviews website as it has mixed reviews.

TBH mate if youre serious about a car you would travel to see it.
I have travelled 4hrs each time for a car after due diligence checks and have always ended up buying the car. Very rarely do they appear on your doorstep.
Although the convertible more or less did.

Thanks. Ive just had a look at that. Ive Vchecked the car and I think I’ll call BMW before handing over any deposit just to go over the history and confirm its all been done by them.
