I’m selling my motorbike and I appear to have found a buyer, however he wants the bike delivered to Wales and I’m in the north east. He seems genuine we have been talking, he’s seen loads of photos ect we agreed a price and he’s sent a small deposit however I still wouldn’t be happy letting the bike go without it being paid for in full first. He obviously isn’t to keen paying for the bike and hoping it arrives. There will be no problems from my I ’ve been completely honest about the bike and he’s getting it for a very good price. Any suggestions how we can get the sale done and keep us both happy?
Nobody will deliver a bike or car until buyer has paid for it. If he doesn’t like that look for another buyer.
Find a trusted dealer and agree for them to hold the cash in escrow for a small fee? When the bike is delivered and the buyer is happy they release the cash. Very common in the gun world but not sure if garages would go for it. Could be done off the books but with a simple contract between all parties?
I forgot to mention he would be using a bike transport company to move it. I can’t think of anyway to do it without one of us having to take a risk. I might just tell him if he doesn’t want to pay up first I’ll find someone else
Seems very risky bud. Have him pay for the bike in full, then he can pick a logistics company of his choosing. Otherwise, what happens if the buyer sees the bike in person then doesn't like it. Who pays for return shipping?
I have sold a car in a similar fashion years ago but it was a dealer that bought it. He sent me 8k and 2 days later a truck came to collect the car. I would never let it go without receiving payment first I was just trying to see if there was a way the buyer could get some reassurance he wasn’t being conned also. I’ll just tell him he’s going to have to pay up front and arrange transport if he wants it or just leave it and I’ll find another buyer. cheers
Ain't that the truth. I started weeding out friends and family over the last 5 years. Its pretty streamlined now, with a small tight knit inner circle. Then an outer circle with "casual" friends and family. Learning to say No, really switched things up for the better.
It can go either way. I wouldn't take the risk of sending the bike without full payment. If I was a buyer I wouldn't expect to take delivery without full payment first. Tricky if you are very keen to get rid, but don't let that keeness cloud your better judgement. Maybe just tell the potential buyer you are concerned and see what they suggest. Some might see it as an attack on their honesty others might see it from your point if view. Tricky one.
ive bought and sold a few cars in the past this way. always taken a deposit then once the transport company arrives to collect the vehicle and its confirmed have had the remaining balance paid before the car leaves me and vice versa.
He gets a train to the northeast and tries out the bike. If he likes, he buys & rides it home If not, he goes back on the train. No problem.
Hi, Is the buyer worried that the bike won't be what has been promised and that's the only reason for the delay/question over sending you full payment ? If so, tell him to arrange for a mobile type specialist who'll come to see the bike, do an inspection and send him the report. Once he knows the bike is in excellent condition and chances of something wrong being very low, have him send you the agreed sale price in full. He can also arrange for a bike transport company to collect the bike from you once payment clears and he'll soon have the bike and the deal will be concluded. If he starts moaning, send him his deposit back if it was agreed it's refundable and re-advertise. Cheers, Dennis!
Don’t think so he’s seen loads of pictures and couple of videos he’s happy with the bike. Just cautious of paying for the bike and hoping it actually arrives. He’s got nothing to worry about but I understand, if it was the other way around I wouldn’t do it I would find a way to collect it in person
If he wants it he’s just going to have to pay up and send somebody to collect it, take it or leave it. I’ll give him his deposit back if he doesn’t fancy it
My dad's sold a few bikes where the buyer has had the logistics company bring the cash with them, so it could be done cash on delivery. He doesn't do this anymore as he now trusts my dad enough to simply send the bank transfer a couple of days before the courier turns up. If it's a one-off then the buyer is having to trust the logistics company with the cash up-front.
Except there is a problem isn’t there? Because the guy can’t travel or have you forgotten about all the restrictions that are currently in place?
