I was cleaning the exhaust today on my e92 M3 which is fitted with the M performance exhaust system.

I have noticed that it is cracked in two places with one crack being quite severe.

Has anyone had theirs crack? What does Bmw say about it? I didn't purchase the exhaust new it came on the car so not sure where I stand with warranty.

Chris who I brought the car from says it is a common problem with the earlier M performance exhaust.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is not a cheap exhaust

There has been a few reported on here with cracks, the later MPE has been modified with a strengthening piece welded in the middle of each box, it's very easy to spot if it's an early one. I think they have been replaced by BMW under warranty but only know this from whats been reported on cutters.

BMW will not stand over it unless its within warranty and it sounds like yours is likely out of the 2 years.

Just get somebody who can weld Inconel and have it repaired. Shouldn't be too expensive to fix.

I dunno if he does weld inconel, but paulwelder on the forum is from Milton Keynes, does plenty of exhuast mods for people so he might be able to sort you out.
He travels all over by sounds of it, so he might come to you.

Did the crack make it louder? I'm finding mine pretty boomy but I know mine is the newer model which is meant to be tougher.

Has anyone had any luck getting this replaced under goodwill? You do not expect a £3500 exhaust to crack up.....

Hmm interesting - bloody ridiculous. What about using the 'fit for purpose' laws?

I had the M-performace on my car when i bought it last year, I Believe it had been on the car for about 3 years. Had the same issue. Bmw replaced this under warranty no problem . :)

If you have no luck, you could try going direct to BMW UK. Armed with the knowledge that others have been replaced and you shouldn't be treated differently. I went this route after several issues with my car and dealership, it was quickly resolved and included some hefty goodwill carbon extras. Hope this helps, good luck!

I'm pretty sure that Paul will have only done work on standard exhausts, which are stainless, not Inconel.
