Latest footage from BMW M talking about the car. Interestingly the M3 test mule here doesn’t have the massive grills...

I know your views on it but this is the most up to date footage from BMW (last week) and I’m still holding up hope it’s not a dog!

No, I'm saying a thread already exists (along with like 20 others), so there isn't a need to make another. This video is already being discussed from post #40, posted by user Matt0 on the 25th of June, here:

Saw that pop up on the YouTube feed of our TV last night.

Gave it a watch, not much really to say about it either way.

The 3 won't have them - it will have the stupid fat lip-stick grill the rest of the 3-series range has.

It's got the tall grills. You can see them in the Shmee video.

Wasting your breath, some people are adamant it won't have it despite all the proof.

This was teased by BMW on Twitter its the M3, you can quite clearly see it’s got the big grills.

Not only that but this is the same test mule as the video and again you can clearly see the spaces under the number plate.

Personally I’m not “adamant” it’s not going to have the tall grills nor am I ignoring the evidence. I’m simply holding out hope that it doesn’t.

That’s a different test mule too. The one in the video in the OP has the 3 series grill (look 19 seconds in for example). Could be an older prototype who knows but it’s the latest video from M.

Is it the M4 but some people still argue the M3 will get different grills.

Missing the full image. That front end is the M4. The M3 in the same shot only shows the rear end...

I don't know why people keep harking on about the 3 series front end.......the two and four door E9X, F8X and now G series have all had the same front end. Not one of them has had a 3 series front end.

    M3 Front

    M4 Front

3 Series front........absolutely NOTHING like the M3 test car.

99% certain you’re right as lot of things pointing that way.

Main reason some people are holding out hope is the new 3 series / 4 series have completely different front ends. That hasn’t been the case with a previous gen M car, differences v small.

You’re right the test mule in your pics is big grill territory, not arguing against that and probably means it’s a done deal. The test mule in the video in the OP however has the 3 series front end.

There's some confusion around this as the E92 had a different front end than the E90. They made the E90 M with the E92 front end. Then they decided to split the 3 series in the 3 & 4 for saloon and coupe but made both of them look exactly the same at the front (why???) so the F8X Ms all do have the same front nose as the standard car. So in effect, this could go either way. If they decide to stay with the current design philosophy then then technically the M3 will have the 3 series front and the M4 will have the 4 series front. Look at Audi for example - A4 has a different front to the A5 but one is basically the coupe version of the other.

If they decide to go back to design philosophy of the E9X era then the M3 will be the only 3 series in the range to share the front end of the M4.

Not sure I follow mate but I think we are stating the same thing which is why I'ms saying the G series will follow the trend that started with the E9X M3 and continued to the FX M3 and M4.

The E90 and E92 front ends were the same in design terms of grill, lights and bonnet design albeit some difference on the wings vs. the stock 3 series. Much like the F80, the rear looked like the 3 series on the four door E90.

Compared to that generation of 3 series......

Likewise the F80 and F82 designs are the same front end looks vs. the F30.

I've been saying for ages that the M3 and M4 *should* now be decoupled i.e. the M3 launched a few months after the 3 series and M4 likewise after the 4 series.

This would be logical given they are different product lines now in their own right.

However the fact they are again being launched together would suggest they will share front ends again.

Test mule in the video doesn't even LOOK like an M compared to the other spy shots. The rear arches look alot wider in other spy shots and the front bumper looks totally different compared to other spy shots. Front bumper on the mule in the video looks like M Sport bumper I'd say. Also looks like the M bonnet is missing too.
