If you put the registration of the vehicle up then Smuler might be able to look into the history of the car.
Also what is the mileage of the car?

The car has 16k on the clock.

I was thinking if the DME is goosed I would get a used one and take it somewhere to be coded onto the car, at least I can make sure that it is not locked.

I dont mind a small bill <£1000 out of in the end.

If i have to get rid I dont think i would get another.

    18 month old and 16 k :think::bugeye:

Seeing that you appear reluctant to reveal the registration to allow others to try and see the history of the vehicle was it a press car?

I would be hesitant to buy a used DME as I would want the guarantee that the correct and clean one is being fitted thus to allow a genuine clear base should any other issues occur. :)

A press car is one that has been given to the motoring press to evaluate which also equates to tearing around in and testing its limits.
Just look at top gear to get the idea! :muttley:

The finance offer was so good, I missed out on about 10 and not many left on the BMW website.
The face of it it was great car, still is when the power is there.

    Perfect spec , colour etc.

    It was a compromise.

I actually admire what you're doing - nothing worse than buying a car that's seen to be good with massive underlying problems.

I get it's not your responsibility but respect to not trying to screw someone else over.

I honestly don't think the DME needs replacing, the hardware (the DME / ECU whatever you want to call it) doesn't seem to be the issue, it's the software (that has been ****ed about with) that appears to be the issue.

I think you could probably get someone to virginise it (there are some tuning companies that can do this), then reprogram the ecu with the full stock software, this is more than just changing the tune, it effectively deletes the entire ecu and then reloads it with the full original program and software information. This will be much cheaper than a replacement DME either new or used.

However before any of that, you never answered the question about if you turn the dsc completely off, does it still drop power ?

Sorry, I did try that when it first happened.
The codes that I found in the ICM BMW are saying they are in the DME not the ICM.

I will start looking around for someone to virginise it.

Ok too far away, if you were closer I would have liked to hook ISTA up to it, to see what is really going on.

    Where are you?
I have ISTA but not the best at using it.
Would be good to get another persons option.

    Nice driving lanes around there.

The fact that it's intermittent and is ok sometimes i'd be checking the DME wiring harness connections are sound (there are 6 separate connections to the DME)

If it's a 2019 model would the DME have been removed to unlock? think i read that later cars couldn't be unlocked via the OBD port

Well if you want me to plug it in then just drop me a PM.

But if you have ISTA yourself, then I won't see anything different from you.

Was thinking that. not sure it you need to go anywhere the DME for the crank plate.
Just trying to link things together.

Was thinking when it was re-mapped by the previous owner, if they removed the DME (being a later car not possible via the OBD port). You say the fault is intermittent... dodgy connection?
