    Hi All,

Only had the M4 Comp for a few weeks. It is a 2019 model.

I have recently had problems with power. It feels like the timing is being pulled or there is little or no boost. Also gear changes are not quick at all, on “off throttle” there is no burbling like normal.

The strange thing is that sometimes I can turn the car off and on and it is all good.

I have left the battery off for a few hours but no different.

    checked the codes on ISTA.

I read the code again this morning and some have come up now.

    All related to the ICM.

    D01557
    D01558
    D0156D
    D01570
    D01646
    D018B5
    D018E1
    D01A08
    D01B3F

    Any link?

There is no sign of cracks, I have it booked in to BMW. He did say it might be VANOS or a sensor.

Any checks on ISTA for the vanos i can do?

    Any ideas?

you know what I’m referring too then ;)

    Valvetronic/eccentric shaft

there’s been a few “new” cars and a few very low mileage cars suffering with fractured eccentric shafts and tits Valvetronic units.

I was given a 69 plate loaner that had the ticking noise on unlocking the car, car had 50miles on the odo! Crazy ey?

The build date on the door jam said it was a Nov 2018 build date! Yet they slapped on a 69 plate, must have spent a year in storage.

    Hi Guys,
I can say I have. Does it happen all the time when unlocking?

    what does the Valvetronic do?

I will check in the morning. I left the car at work over the weekend.

Not necessarily all the time, but if it's clicking away, there may well be an issue. It controls all sorts, including idle speed. I'm sure someone with technical knowledge will provide a proper answer.
There's a PUMA for this. It can be a 3 stage job. Even the first stage, replacing the valvetronic unit alone, is an all-day job. If that doesn't sort the issue, they go on to stage 2 etc. until your particular promlem's been addressed.

I had this when the car was new, in the first 6 months it did it about 4 times when opening the drivers door from cold, never did it again and the car is now 3 years old.

    Order of repair is:

valvetronic unit change, if no joy
Eccentric shaft change, if problems persist
    Cylinder head change

I have checked ISTA and there are go codes linking to it. Just ICM errors.

The problem did look to start happening after having the bolt capture device on. Could they have done anything during installation?

Because you’ve now sacrificed your engine warranty.

The warranty was already gone. The last owner mapped the car and BMW removed it when it was updated. I stuck it on there as a precaution knowing that the old map might effect warranty.

A very highly rated well known place done it. Don’t want to say who yet until they have the chance to fix it.

what could have they done, I thought they just bolt something on and don’t touch timing etc.

It’s a simple process on the capture plate install. So likely nothing to do with that

Would anyone know if ICM codes would cut the power. It is like it has no boost or is in limp mode. No lights or messages tho.

what I am trying to workout is should I take it to BMW or back to the place that done the plate.

BMW should cover sensors and electrical with warranty but don’t want a big diagnostic bill if it turns out to be something the plate has done.

I mean with it being less than a year old, knowing it had no engine warranty?
