Try a bit of a google; looks like it is your alternator failing.

    Cheers,

Obviously I already Googled it, but most posts are taking about the light flickering while driving, whereas mine is doing it with the engine off.

I thought the same as David, but other possibility could be a bad earth.

Oh man... Hunting a bad earth sounds like it will take a long time!

I'm not sure if this flashing battery symbol is related, but I've just started getting strange SMG symptoms (surging revs on upshifts, revving higher instead of lower on some upshifts, and SMG error code 32 (gearbox input speed evaluation))

I'm at a bit of a loss with this one at the mo

For earth checking you could start with the other end of the negative terminal of the battery.
You've checked the battery end now try the earth end. Any rust?

I run a lithium ion starter battery which has different shaped terminals on it, so I had to make a new earth cable for it.

I actually already tried the battery from my 120D so had to use the original earth cable for that one. It made no difference.

Understood, but did you check the end where it bolts to the car body? Is it tight, clean? Any rust there?

Yes, it's definitely a good connection there

Ok. Next one would be the engine earth strap, perhaps.

It’s not something silly like the battery itself moving around slightly and causing a connection issue? I know in my convertible it sits in a anti vibration tray and have know people that’s the battery is actually loose in the tray? Not sure if that’s the same as the coupe

Unfortunately it's nothing as simple as this. The battery is fixed down securely, and the battery light is flashing when the car is stationary with the engine off

I'd just been thrashing it around. 105° C isn't too bad, is it.

Ok that’s a pain for you, I was just saying that sometimes it’s easy to jump in the deep end and miss the most silly obvious things, hope it gets sorted soon mate
