    Hi All

Picked up my first BMW a few weeks back and really pleased with it, the only thing I found disappointing is there is only a AUX plug fitted under the arm rest and no USB fitted in glove box either, I finally picked up a genuine BMW AUX/USB switch off Ebay complete with lead and set about fitting it a few days ago, all seemed to go pretty smooth, managed to get the old AUX socket out without much problem and route the cable to back of head unit, all plugged in perfect and ready to go.

Sadly its not working! the head unit has not recognised the USB and still only shows AUX, I also tested the USB socket with a 12v tester and there is power getting to it but only on one single terminal, I have now been told the car needs coding for the USB? any advice would be much appreciated:thumbsup:

The usb doesn’t plug into the Cic. It goes to a tcu or combox in the boot.

    What’s your build date?

    Cheers Alpina!

The car is a 320D M Sport and was built in October 2010, just out of interest what is the Cic socket in the back of the head unit for! Is that for a USB in the glovebox?

The white socket in Cic is for the glovebox data usb.

You should have a combox in the boot. The music usb cable plugs in there.

If its not under the carpet you might be stuffed. Do you have Bluetooth for phone?

It should be on the floor directly behind the rear backrest on drivers side

Taken a photo yesterday I'm trying to upload on here, literally nothing in the boot space under the carpet apart from what looks like an empty tool area at front of the boot, only other place is right over left or right hand side...

    Edited:

Fitted a genuine BMW USB in the Glove box today running the wire straight to the back of the head unit, sadly this doesn't work either, tried it with a memory stick with nothing but Music, there's a light glowing on the stick so I know there is power but not reading it, Having a bit of a nightmare here just trying to play music through USB....

spent the last few days trying to find the TCU or Combox, Nothing under the carpet of the boot or on the inside panels of the boot, removed the rear seats and the lining of the boot but nothing, also looked below the steering wheel in the panel above the pedals and still no joy, not sure where else to look?
