Equality is a dream that is ridiculous.
It will never happen. Whether it’s wanted or not.
It's quite simple really. ALL LIVES MATTER. END OF.
(obviously subject to terms and conditions...murderers, rapists, child abusers, etc etc are exempt)
It’s taking an argument to a nonsensical extreme though - it’s like someone buying recycled goods for the environment and then we say they are hypocrites because they have central heating...
I don’t know toplad and wasn’t singling him out specifically. My statement was in general.
Fully agree mate, and that was kinda my point.
The logic is there. No question in that... but where does it end, you can make those similar comparisons for almost anything.
Unless you fully end everything and start again with an imaginary, utopian world of equality, you will always have winners and losers as a result of progression throughout history.
Not everything is nice; but it is the reason why we are where we are today.
That doesn’t (or shouldn’t) stop us from striving for a better world though.
I’m not on Facebook or insta etc but I do know certain friends partners are very vocal about their political views on there to the point where I just think.. ****. (One on either end of the spectrum).
Nearly all my friends are super chilled out tbh and level headed so no matter their views we can always talk about whatever. I couldn’t deal with dickheads posting nonsense like you describe even if I largely agree with it I just cringe.
i dislike everything that fb/insta is tbh. As far as I can tell it’s used to stalk hot women you vaguely know or for attention seekers to try and portray a better version of their life than they really have.
I hate fakeness, I don’t see my real mates as much as I should and there are already enough people in real life I don’t like. And for those reasons I’m oot.
Pretty sad to fall out with a mate over politics etc
We live in a democracy where we all have opinions and views
Everybody’s views are different- that’s why we have a vote
To fall out over that is pretty ridiculous tbh- especially with a mate
The BLM movement I can understand why they have gone forward with it but surely all life’s matter- it’s abit like holding a rally saying white lives matter (Black people would take massive offence to that- And rightly so)
Where will it all end??!!
Thread cleaned up.
Please stop abusing each other and refrain from posting in all matters racist related.
Freedom of speech invariably means that you're going to read views of others that you find offensive even abhorrent.
On a very basic level you can either:
1) Censor and "report" such views in effect "sweep them under the carpet", such as pulling down statues ala BLM protestors
2) Debate and repudiate.
1) will tend to marginalize and entrench extremism whereas 2) could make a difference on some occasions.
I guess whether you fall out with friends or not depends upon how far they take it and the degree of offence you decide to take.
“I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it.” Voltaire.
A fan of Voltaire myself, unfortunately to many want to shout down or even worse try to undermine the individual rather than make a reasoned argument as a counter point
isn’t that their prerogative as defined by the very argument you’re making?
Professor Lewis ?
I may be more interested in discussing something properly with you if you actually had any real interest, normally the only time you interact with me is to make a pithy/smart arse comment or to stir up some grief.
Hope that’s not your attempt to “undermine the individual rather than make a reasoned argument”?
If you think about it... platforms like Twitter are a really $hit way to communicate.
Can you really have a meaningful conversation/dialogue in a tweet? It always has a combative element to it.
Why do your replies always have to be confrontational?
We live in a world now, where politicians, media, celebrities and general members of the public only want to talk in soundbites.
With as much division as there is in the world, there’s never been a bigger need for conversation - but with everyone speaking as if they were on Twitter, with short, sharp (and often worthless) comments, clickbait headlines, and whoever shouts the loudest politics - it’s unlikely to happen any time soon.
Sorry, but didn’t you call RSK obese in a debate this morning -
