After reading that thread about the poor guy who's Imola red E46 was nicked, it's made me think about installing a tracker.

Plenty on Amazon for £50 or less like this one, but as ever reviews seem mixed: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071FQNQ1L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_oFmxFbX25C2DD

Anyone got any recommendations for a tracker in this kind of budget? And where to install it? I was thinking if it's magnetic and I'm hardwiring it, then above the fuse box on that steel plate up and to the left? But someone who knows what they're looking for could easily tear out all the wires piggybacking into the fusebox..

I'm wondering what tracker to install too. Mine is for insurance purposes.

Apparently Trackers with a key-card are also worth the investment.

    Any recommendations?

What do you mean by key card?

I just meant if the "key-card" device is not with the driver (in the vehicle) that's when an alert is sent? This feature may be unavailable though?

    I found some useful links:

[This is for an E92 M3, I haven't read up on whether they're hard to steal]

    https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-n...am-approved-devices-and-crash-tests-explained

    https://www.rewiresecurity.co.uk/insurance-approved-gps-trackers

    https://www.trackershop-uk.com/insurance-approved-trackers-explained

    https://www.metatrak.co.uk/categorys5.html

Metatrak might be the best technology (unsure of the customer service) but comes at a price.

Looks like a "Rewire Security" device would be good because I saw that Tracker.co.uk got awful customer service reviews and they make approved devices at a lower price.

    Thanks in advance

Yeah, I've seen that these are good value. I reckon my insurer will need something more professional (I'll check tomorrow).

Ahh right, yeah would probably need to be thatcham approved.
Let me know what they say. I don't think my insurer gives much of a discount for trackers. It was more for my peace of mind :)

Yeah I agree that Thatcham approval may be necessary.

    I'll forward what I find.

I'd like the tracker to get a competitive quote and for the added peace of mind.
