I don't know if we have any guys from the US here but jesus, how bad does it have to get before there is a general consensus on gun control in the states?

I know that london has seen an uptick in stabbings, but i would think you would be very hard pressed to stab 17 people

The perpetual argument about their right to bear arms, for protection, VS our view that free availability to armed weapons are at the very route of problem, will never be settled.

I think their policy on firearms is fucking ridiculous. But the rednecks / middle America will NEVER vote to give up their rights.

The American Constitution was written in 1787 and the second amendment was designed to allow Americans to defend themselves from outsiders (the English at the time). It is totally irrelevant in the 21st Century. The Armed Forces are there to protect the American People from foreign attack. The Police Force is there to protect Americans from themselves. They should be armed NOT Joe Public.

12,000 people this year have been killed in shootings in the US according to the news.

In comparison our whole country is going crazy about 300 people killed in stabbings this year.

    Kinda crazy

It seems crazy because we think Americans are like us they look like us and speak English etc. But they are not like us. That’s what we can’t wrap our heads around I think. Every time a shooting like this happens. Gun sales soar.

It’s not a terrorist so they will hush it away like all the other massacres.

to be completely fair you probably have to adjust that for population 66m/326m

But even then you are talking 300 Vs 2400

The thing i notice is that there always seems to be some illegality that is focused on, in the las vegas one it was some bump stock thing that increases the rate of fire, here there is already some extended magazine thing so it could hold 14 bullets rather than 11 as if that is some sort of defining factor, blows my fucking mind

This is what happens when Walmart sell guns and ammunition alongside milk and bread, it also doesn’t help that there is no fully inclusive health care for anyone with mental health issues.

Notice how the school kids for the previous massacre managed to get some air time and now nothing heard?

Americans expect it so no shock anymore, they accept it.

Look up the stats for how many people a year are killed by the gun, it's thousands.

Therefore they shouldn't be trying to save the 17/20/50 people killed by massacres, you can't legislate against lunacy without overly impacting the law abiding. There will always be a better loon.

Do something that is designed to save the thousands across the board that die each year and you'll be way ahead in lives saved and likely that would have a knock on effect and reduce massacres (or not)

^ That CNN reporter being attacked, in fact she approached him and laid hands on him first trying to grab the microphone

    So
    1) He should be going #measwell
    2) isn't that sexual discrimination for him to ward her unwanted approaches off and be barred for it
    Or is it (positive descrimination)

its not the root cause of violent behavior, but it massively magnifies the repercussions

Agreed. Throw the legal availability of firearms to humans in every country in the world and it’ll be the same. There are crazy people everywhere in the world, last thing you want to do is give someone a chance to push a button to kill someone. The root cause can never be cleaned or fixed, humans have millions of variables to want to inflict harm on someone else. Someone could just be having a bad week and end up pulling the trigger on someone. Firearms is the medium used. When we have capitalism, drugs, mental health issues, war, schooling issues parenting issues, etc we can never clean the root cause easily in today’s society.

Now if we made them all illegal and took them all off the face of the planet (which will never happen). No one can shoot and kill at anyone easily. Plus it’s the only tangible thing for a quick fix at the problem. There’s no doubt less people would die if the US change their amendment.

I remember hearing a stat that there are more privately owned guns in America than people. This includes men women and children and does not take into consideration illegal weapons. I just googled it and this is apparently from official data from a government survey. It’s utterly mental when you think of that. I don’t honestly think that this is ever going to be something they can remove from the public. I do however think they could quite easily make a big difference by banning automatic weapons.
