So M4 is 4 years old end of February. Had to book service and mot today so had 4 new michelins today to avoid any advisories. The big service is supposed to be around £1100 full price but covered under my service pack (phew). Seems nuts that after only 14k miles they’ll be changing plugs etc. Next M3 not available until 2021 for delivery and it could be nearer 2022 before the next M4 Vert is due so I was drawn to the X3 M in the showroom. Test drive on 26 February. Might be time for a change. Could be the best spec’d M4 Vert for sale soon with only 14k miles on the clock.

I was tempted to go back to Porsche for a Macan Turbo (don’t want X5 size after Cayennes) but I did like the look of the X3 M. Not considered one before. Any one got one. Thoughts appreciated.

I bought a Photonic blue X3 M40i and had it for all of 7 weeks then sold it. Not my cup of tea but it was comfortable and pretty quick so I should imagine the X3M will be rapid.
Three mistakes I made with cars.....getting rid of my E92 M3, getting rid of my Porsche 911 Turbo and purchasing the X3 M40i.
My M4 is almost 3 years old now, but I'll probably keep it as I'm hankering after the next 992 turbo supposedly next year. :D
Be interested to hear what you think of the X3 though.

Yep had one for 4k miles. Got in there at a good price and it's doing it's job great, yes suspension is on the hard side but it's better than the M4. You're not going to sling it round like a M3/4 you can tell it's a heavy SUV, but it is bloody quick wet or dry.

Interior is nice, standard spec is good. I think it looks good too, especially from the back!

Not sure with you doing such low miles its going to bring you a great deal of joy when you drive it, but suppose it depends on what you're after.

Don't buy a new one as i believe the big discounts have gone, so get a lightly used for into the 50s.

X3M probably isn’t much heavier than the F83 so will likely feel much quicker.
Apparently it’s worth checking that the suspension isn’t set to “fully loaded” in terms of occupancy (I’ve been told you can customise in iDrive) and the tyre pressures aren’t set to max. Both of these can make the ride far stiffer than needed.
Only other things I’ve heard are that it’s lack of toque isn’t ideal for a vehicle of its type but it might be rubbish. I wish they were still doing the offers they were in December!

300kg more, no such thing in idrive that I’ve seen (but will investigate). The ride is fine once you put miles on it. yes you have to thrash it to really get going but power and torque comes in very linear no thump of torque. Thrashing it means getting into the 20mpg is difficult.

Kerb is 2045kg, f83 1750kg. But yes it still feels quicker anyway even with the extra weight. Great engine this S58.

That’s a good find mate, just checked mine and it was on ‘other tyre’ now changed to 21” and partial load. I wonder if it’ll do anything!

I bet all it does it set the target pressure in the TPMS differently - the required tyre pressures are different depending on if the vehicle is fully loaded or not

Yes, looks to offer a recommended pressure based on what you've selected.

My M4 is one year old today, i think i may hand onto it till the new M4 comes out, but am tempted by the x3m as prices tanked already on them and can get big spec low mile one for 54 grand already. Be handy to throw my dog on the back too instead of the van always. The macan turbo looks great but its over 100bhp down on the bmw. Ive never been an suv lover so i keep getting swayed away, just wish we could get a glimpse of the new M3/4 asap
