The warranty on our F15 X5 is due and costs circa £1500 or just under £1000 with a £250 XS

What do people think - does X5 need a warranty - some cars like my M5 I wouldnt have without a warranty but not sure about the X5 - is it worth getting or just save the money and use it in case...not sure what the reliability of the F15 is like - most of its time in our ownership has been during Covid lockdown to date...

Would not bother with a warranty on the X5, especially at that price

Just wondering where did you get that pricing from?

My F15 40d had the BMW warranty run out after it's 3yr anniversary. When I was looking to buy last year, those were also the costs given tor me to add an extended warranty, in fact just checking now and if I wanted to add it now it would be same.

I had thought that if there was an existing BMW warranty then pricing would be much lower than one that had lapsed.

I ran our last F15 40D, without a warranty for the last 6 months it was with us, and i wasnt worried at all buddy. They arent mega stressed vehicles, say like the M5, where you are using mega performance a lot of the time. Never say never and all that, but if you are changing the X5 in the next year or so, i wouldnt be too concerned.

i would have agreed with this a few weeks ago until my 2017 52000 miles M50D went into meltdown last week, had to be transported to dealership where it seemed electronics in the engine hadnt being doing there job and needed no end of work doing from the dominoe effect of that , i was told 3 days of man hours was needed along with new parts

Wasnt happy though at the beginning when they advised that I had to pay for there hours spent investigating what the fault was, they reckon that this cost is not covered under extended warranty, they did wavour it eventually though

I would extend, my friends AUC F15 has just hit 80k , the dreaded timing chain noise has just appeared. No warranty on his car anymore.
