Say you have a budget of £30k and you want a fun "sports" car which can return semi reasonable mpg and can be used as a daily 15 mile round trip to work.
Have done the E92 M3 and don't want to be putting fuel in like that thing :bugeye:
Also done 987.2 Cayman S which was great but still lusted for more power and a better interior.

So far I have narrowed it down to TTRS (£20k manual + wingbacks) and trying to find a good spec M4 (£28k?), also in manual.

Any thoughts?

Currently have an 8P RS3 (Same drive train as the TTRS) very cool car and enjoying it a lot, came from an E92 M3 and A45 AMG. Was going to do a deal with my 335i against your M3 once upon a time

I’ve got that exact car but nobody on here will ever see past the badge.

It is WAY more fun than anything I’ve owned and probably the most surprising car I have ever bought. RS300 Trophy.

They're very capable cars, just not sure how exciting and dramatic they are! Once that 5 cylinder is opened up they sound awesome.
That's interesting, I would certainly have another 35i car.

Need a tiny bit more but M2 is the car 100%

Proper gutsy engine, quick, great chassis and loads of fun (waaaay more fun than an Audi). N55 sounds throaty and loud for a turbo.

Manual and DCT options.

I love ours.

A bit out there perhaps but have you considered a C43 Merc? 4 wheel drive too, or sort of.
2 door/4 door or even 5 door should you wish it!
Not too sure of the sports angle though.
The older ones are about that price or a bit less.
I don't know if there's generally any love for them but I quite like the look of them :)

If it's just 7.5 miles each way, surely you'd spend a fair chunk of your 15 just warming a M car up.

A C43 is an auto. A very good daily driver, but not if you want manual.

If you were happy with a 35i iteration, the 135i coupe in manual , tuned and with upgraded suspension, could be as close to a M car as possible. More feel with the hydraulic steering than the later M-Lites.

Personally for a daily driver, I'd want something new thus with warranty, so would opt for a hot hatch. Fiesta ST or i30N, with a diff seem well respected fun manuals. Cheaper to buy too.

This…

Good fun on track too with simple RS29 pad upgrade.

I have just arrange viewing on a manual M2 with sunroof, HK, front/rear PDC, carplay upgrade idrive (seems like a full spec bar DCT). Car also has KW V3s, high flow downpipe, intercooler and a tune so it really should be a well sorted car. Mileage is at 40k and falls just under £30k, what do you think? My only concern is depreciation once more new cars get pumped out!

Not a massive merc fan although I can appreciate them still. Very capable just they're all autos (I'm sure they are fantastic as most are nowadays).

That is the only trouble, oil temp just about starts creeping on the gauge in the BMW's I've had and even the 370z Nismo now. The only car that seemed to get up to temps relatively quick and was reasonably fuel efficient was the Cayman S! I did have an N55 135i which was DCT, just didn't fall in love with the thing even after getting 400bhp and 600nm out of it! Think I needed a manual to keep me engaged:think:

Sounds like this car ?

Miles are prob a little higher than I’d go for. Wheels painted by the looks of it and I’d personally avoid a mapped car. Not sure how tight you are on budget but for another 10% you should be knocking on the door of a 17 plate car, less miles poss from a BMW dealer (including warranty). Rear carbon diffuser also cleans up the rear nicely. I think the std plastic item looks cheap.

They seem to be holding well price wise. I had mine from new (March 17 plate), good spec car with most things except sunroof and went back to dealer for about £32k p/ex for RS4 in July 2019. Mine was one of the last before the car hike in Mar/Apr 2017…not sure if there are still implications with this.

I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

That's the one, sounds clean and always good to hear the owner has a GT3 and moved on to a Mac 570s so likes his cars:lolwsign:
He has some oem competition wheels too so I think that might have to be negotiated if it comes to it...

I can't see any pics of the front or the rear , what's wrong with it ;)
I may be wrong, but I thought OG M2s didn't even have the option of front parking sensors. Are they a mod.

Haha think it was hiding the registration in honesty, but I thought the same until I got some more photos through!
Maybe you are right, but it is advertised with so I am none the wiser! Apparently has LCI rear lights and car play coded in which is nice too!

What it seems to have, and I like, is electric seats and lumbar support.

But if they're not important to you and it's mods aren't, I agree about spending a little more. This one has been £32,490 so who knows with negotiation, £32k ; you get a year's warranty. Lower miles and a little newer

I’d go m4 personally, had one for 3 years and loved every minute. Could get 30mpg too on a steady run if required.
Something like this one seems to imply it’s within budget?

Had an M2 with very similar spec , fabspeed 200cel DP along with MPE and wagner intercooler , sounded awesome and with a manual box was a great drive ! Would have kept it but got a driving ban
