Default Gearbox wanted (manual)

I'm in need of a manual gearbox for an E92 M3.

I assume it needs to be off this particular model & another 6 speed off another model won't fit?

Any help would be great!

Thanks

Input shaft into the gearbox has near enough broken.

Apparently the gearboxes can't be refurbished either, brilliant

What caused that? I'd be surprised if a specialist couldn't replace the input shaft.

Nothing has caused it, it's just wear and tear, **** happens!

From what I've understood the gearbox cannot be repaired as BMW do not sell these parts, I'm sure they could like most manufacturers but there's more money in it for them to simply sell a new box.

Very very unusual for that to be wear and tear.

Anyway BMW will tell you gearbox parts are unavailable, but if you find the gearbox manufacturer (it may be ZF) they may supply parts.

The car is on 140k, it's 10 years old & has a full BMW service history.
It's wear and tear. I know they're solid boxes I did my research but anything mechanical has the potential to fail.

Does the M3 share a gearbox with any other models?

It's ZF & Getrag that won't sell parts to BMW, only "re-manufactured" complete boxes

Thanks mate.
There's only one, and I've asked the seller numerous questions and they're not responding, very frustrating. It's collect only, or arrange a courier. I've asked for dimensions etc but they're just not getting back to me.

I even phoned them for the car reg it's off, they sounded dodgy and said they'd get back to me but I've heard nothing.

I know what you mean, often buying expensive components like gearboxes second hand is a gamble and I you don't feel right about the seller steer clear. I did a really quick search yesterday and thought I saw 2 plus another in Germany. May also be worth filling out one of the part required forms on the websites breakers use - I've seen them on google.

What is the situation with your one, is it out the car and could you take it to a gearbox expert for a second opinion?

Put your chassis number in realoem.com
Look up your gearbox part number
Use the part no application search to see what cars it is on

Exactly, thanks for the link I'm sure it'll be useful in the future.

I've actually just spoken with a gearbox reconditioner, as soon as I said it's an M3 'oh dear, not a manual is it? Can't do it' however, he's passed me on to someone else who has apparently had success repairing them to a degree so time will tell. I'll update the thread accordingly
