Default Help With a Fault Code

My mate has a 2003 E46 M3 he has owned since new, yesterday the engine warning light came on and it started running rough so he called me as having just purchased a E92 M3 I also invested in a Carly for BMW Adapter and Pro App.

The Carly adapter gave us the following Fault code-

EVANOS1-LATE-VALVE
Code 00048

I cleared all the faults and the car started running fine again but when he called his mechanic today he gave him the code above and the mechanic said there should be a PO code which would give the exact location so does anyone know how I get the PO code from the details above as the 000048 code is not the PO code apparently.

Hiya,

You posted a query about a mate that had a Carly error 000048. My car just developed the same fault (read via Carly) so keen to understand what the outcome was.

Anyone else had this? EVANOS1-late-valve

Default Car has gone to local independent ...... now just waiting...

For the inevitable call...

Suspect Vanos fault, still drives well tho’

Going to get them to look at the diff as its ‘clonking’ more than I think it should :-(. They had problems getting it bolted back in when I had the seals redone due to leak.

So, good news so far....

Fault is a Vanos fault but only occurred once and after running Vanos test - test passed and no issues reported.

Looks like the diff is fine but there is some movement which will have to be sorted sometime inthe future.

Indeed they will otherwise presents were going to be badly wrapped ex-M3 engine parts.......

So code appeared again after random amount of miles, spoke with the garage and their engine builder and in the end it was determined that the Solenoid pack had gone. This has been replaced along with a couple of other minor non-related bits and back on the road around £1k lighter in the wallet department.
