Default Smg inpa error 59 pivot pin?

I have an 03 smg that wonít start due to not being in neutral, inpa message error 59 clutch control, I have swapped the salmon really, checked fluid , swapped slave relay, run adaptions with inpa but fails on clutch travel, Iíve pulled the box out clutch is half worn but Iíd say ok, was expecting clutch release bearing but looks ok, only thing I can see that is definitely past it is the nylon pivot pin has point snapped off/gone, Iíve also plugged my old slave cylinder (which also looked ok) in when not connected to hydraulic and pushed the plunger in, the car would then start but could not balance the biting point, so I donít think itís the slave sensor.
Has anyone had same problem solved by replacing the pivot pin?

Yeah, I’ve ordered an aluminium one, just don’t want to throw cash at clutch, pump, etc

Pump pressure held up ok via inpa aswell, and also never had any clutch slip, just a kidder the odd time when cold

I'm getting Slur on down changes with the occasional judder pulling away. Been diagnosed as the pivot pin and is going in to be replaced. Quite a common thing for causing SMG errors as apparently a lot of folk don't replace them when swapping out clutches and they shrink over time so I'd imagine a snapped one would cause issues.

Can i ask hiw much this is costing you and if its with an indeondant garage or bmw? As a benchmark if i ever need mine changing.

Having it done at JWS Developments approx 8 hours labour. I think Jon charges £45 an hour at the moment.

How was it diagnosed as the pivot pin?

No fault codes, pump builds pressure fine, runs through the bleed and calibrations fine (done multiple times along with the paddle reset) and has no other obvious issues. Had a new clutch approx 35,000 miles ago and the invoice doesn't show it's been replaced. Jon has drove it and with the above suspects that's more than likely the culprit and been with others. Obviously not 100% sure but more than likely through process of elimination. Jon is very good with SMG and not afraid to tackle issues with it. I spoke to other BMW specialists before Jon and quite a few won't touch SMG with a barge pole. I'll update on here when I get it back. Not going in till end of the month though.

Have you any plans to change anything else while you’re in there or just going to wait and see?
Before all this started everything was fine except the odd judder when cold, and had the cog a couple of times in hot weather/traffic, had the rac read the codes and theirs was 59 clutch control, solenoid valve 5, I’ve swapped the valve for a used one as I thought the o rings might have gone but both were ok and resistance were the same aswell,
I think I’m just going to try the pin as it was pretty much non existent

Do your detent springs whilst the box is out aswell

Sorry, to butt in but Ive been wondering whether the pivot pin is excessively worn on my
manual car. I have to completely floor the clutch to get smooth changes and it bites quite soon
when released. I suppose it could be that it needs bleeding which Im going to do but I wondered
if this is a common problem. Otherwise the clutch is fine.

Sorry but couldn’t tell you to be honest mate, ive just been looking to find a problem with the smg and it’s the only obvious thing I’ve found, but if it needs bleeding means you’ve got a leak somewhere, should be easy to find on a manual?

Not sure mate could be. Could be the clutch. How old is the clutch?

I dont really know. The cars on 113K might even be still on the original clutch.

I remember someone at CPC saying that they can use a borescope to look inside the clutch for pivot pin wear. Might be worth considering.

It's more than likely your clutch then 113k is a lot on a clutch.

when i had my clutch done, flywheel was worn as well, and clutch pin was buggered. Get a stainless steel one from hack engineering, pretty cheap, and will last longer than plastic!

Where can I get a clutch alignment tool?, I can only seem to find them from the US and the postage is more than the tool, I’m only doing it once so just a cheap plastic one will do
