Make a fuss of it, ask for what you paid for - Im sure there will be some felxibility on their part.

Dont be prepared to patronise them

"So, hang on, you are telling me you;ve been selling luxury cars since Jesus was playin conkers and you still make basic school boy errors like this - I thought I was buying a prestigious BMW not a Dacia"

Failing that, threaten them with Esther Rantzem!

If you are going to negotiate for the MPE to remain on the car then FGS start low...£500 or similar.
That way you lower their expectations and you have room to go up...if you start at £1250 then they are going to come back with a higher figure.
IThe tactic is always..yes you really want the car but simply can't afford to pay much more. Have a figure in mind (say £1000 more) that you are happy with and be prepared to walk if they don't agree.
They may well want to register the car for this months target which gives you a lot of leverage.

Take car without exhaust and they fit a brand new standard spec exhaust to the car
You don’t do either, the deal is off!

Don’t let them hold you to ransom, be in the driving position.
Hit the nail on the head, this advice exactly.
They’ll have plenty of time to mess you about and make a dogs dinner of things when it comes to service and after sales.
Don’t let them start before you’ve even bought the car.
Call their bluff and be prepared to walk. I know it’s difficult to resist the lure of a shiny M3 but if need be there will be other cars and other deals.

Sound advice - always easy to think you need to start reasonable, truth is your just setting yourself up.

2 months ago I spoke to Halliwell Jones about an October 17 M3 with 3500 miles. Told them where I wanted to be but they came back with an offer that was about £3500 out. I didn't even try to talk to the sales guy as he seemed disinterested. In the meantime I bought my F10 M5. A fortnight ago the guy from Halliwell's rings back to ask if I'm still interested in the car, but he had missed the boat as my deal was done on my M5. They still have that car. It's a pity that some dealers don't want to sell cars.

I suspect they do want to sell cars but they can't afford to give everything away at the lowers offer. Its a trading game, some you win and some you lose but hopefully you more then average out and make a decent margin.

On a car like the the M3 a dealer is going to want to clear around £2.5 to £3K.
Unless its a distress sale no one is going to get £3.5k off a used F8x M3.

That is why there are 100's still for sale. BMW discounts feck up RV and secondhand sales.
