I haven't owned one but can tell you about two close friends experiences with the JLR brand

Three year old Evoque with relatively low mileage and FSH has broken down several times with numerous issues but to be fair the dealer has been great and the warranty has covered all faults so far...........still doesn't cover the inconvenience though.

Brand new Discovery Sport failed to start outside my other friends house after two weeks...........random electrical fault but he was very upset

Your choice obviously but they don't have a great reputation for reliability.

Had a mate with one that was 10 years old and was never out of the shop, till the torque convertor in the gearbox failed and was almost worth writing it off for.

No chance

Mrs RSK has had a Discovery 3, three Discovery 4s and most recently two FullFat RRs in succession over the past 11 years.

Only one, the very first one, ever had any serious trouble,

Couple of questions :

New or used ?

Where in the country are you and who is your local dealer ?

Mrs has a 14 plate Evoque bought from a LR dealer so got 2 year warranty. Been in once for a bad squeak when turning which turned out to be a Suspension arm that needed replacing under warranty.

Needs to go in again to have a fog light replaced that's full of condensation but haven't experienced anything else, would advise paying the premium and getting an approved used for piece of mind

Land Rover? Dealership?

If a car dealership is defined as a group of people that seriously want to sell you a car, then I haven't found one of those at Landrover.

Every person I know with a JLR car has had compressor failure on the air suspension, or some electrical fault.. My mates car would randomly unlock itself over night :O

I had a craving for an RRS a while ago.. no longer! Put me off the XF as well.. I like British brands, but ended up German again..

I had a 2016 Range Rover Sport SVR and itís the best 4x4 Iíve ever owned. I didnít experience any problems and I am about to buy another one. I am going to try a W12 Bentley Bentayga but I think that will only make the SVR look like better value. If you want a 4x4, I am yet to find a more all round car that has the noise of the SVR.

I'm in the market for a 3-4yr old 4x4 as my old E53 is just too long in the tooth (no off-roading mind!).

I really like the looks of the 2nd Gen RRS but I must admit, I too have heard way too many people talking about excessive reliability problems.

It may not have the bling but I'm gonna go with another X5 as for me I can't justify spending another £10k+ (relative to milage and year) to get into the RR club.

Don't believe all the hype about LR products or their dealers. They are no better or worse than any other of the so called premium brands, quite frankly most of them are cr*p anyway.

We've had 2 RR classics, 1 Tdi 300 disco, a 4.0 Lt P38 RR and currently a 2003 4.4 L322 RR. No major issues with any of them. The last Rangey has been owned since 2007 when it had 37k on the clock, it now has 103k. They have all been used extensively to tow a horse box, usually with two horses and an all up weight around 2.5t. The L322 had to have the rear sub-frame mounts replaced last year, but that's hardly surprising. The cooling system on the old M60 can be a bit fragile, but you're talking a tad newer than my old bus.

Like I said, horror stories abound on internet forums for all makes, they really are pretty sh&t at what they do, but we keep buying their stuff so while we do we can't expect them to improve. Pick your dealer carefully, avoid all major chains and go for a small independent main dealer with maybe one to three sites.

I don't understand why people bother with this. If they want the car , you'll be being woken up at knife point and you will give them the code. Don't for one second think these guys are beyond coming into the house. As things like ghost become more common, they will simply switch to assaulting / ambushing you outside your home , or when your out.
Its just a car , thats what insurance is for. I can handle myself , but when dealing with people who give ZERO [email protected]@ks if they want something let them have it. People think if you make it hard they will move on. In reality they just step up their game. Your no good to your family dead. I genuinely think autowatch ghost is going to make things more dangerous in the long run. Just make sure you have gap insurance and everythings fine. If it gets taken , it will save you getting a crappy trade in value when you change too.

Forget reliability and dealerships, the thing I would be scared of in an SVR is the 10mph at best 😭
