Default ESS Supercharger + Schrick Cams? Compatible?

Hiya folks,

Looking to supercharge my M3 soon but I've got some concerns. I'm currently running 304/296 Schrick cams with 14mm of lift. I feel like that the duration and overlap will be problematic with the supercharger.

Has anyone had any experience with any situations like this?

I've contacted ESS but waiting to hear back.

I thought overlap was more an issue when it comes to turbo charging not supercharging?

I've been getting mixed responses on this very point and so far nobody seems to be able to give me a definitive answer

Hi mate who fitted your cams and map it what power did you end up with? Are they solid lifters?

He has an E46, so they arenít compatible to the E92.

Unless you are running some very trick high compresssion pistons I assume you are de-vanos? Otherwise you must have some 288/280 standard lift. Probably best to take those big lift cams out.. schrick do a set for supercharged low compression engines.

Theyre serious cams,, must be a 400bhp car already?
Assuming its manual,?
Who did the engine build?

If it turns out the cams arent the ones too run with the sc can i have first dibs?
cheers Jamie

Good to know man. What supercharger kit are you running?

Stock pistons my friend. And I still run VANOS. And I assure you they are 304/296 cams, car makes 382bhp on the dyno.

Aye I saw that. I'll look into those.

I spoke to my mapper who says it shouldn't really be a problem, ESS arent keen because they want you to use their own map. I run a standalone ECU so that isn't possible for me regardless. So I should be able to have it all configured on the dyno and hopefully it'll run fine. Otherwise I'll sell them and swap to the other cams

Ok so you must have mechanically limited the vanos or retarded the static cam timing to achieve that - you would be better off removing them from a standard compression engine let alone a charged one.

Asking as ive heard to make the most out of the lift on those cams you have the head ache of re programming the smg software and i havent found someone whose managed it yet...

Do you have the supercharged cams?

Did you fit them after supercharging?

I run a standalone, EMU ECU. And yeah it's a manual car. The whole car was re-tuned on the dyno over a good few hours to make sure everything is set up correct.

Mines smg mate and yes it was a headache seriously... pertfect touch remapped mine along with Andy from storm Motorworks..

It now pushes 570bhp from a c38 81 rotrex charger part of a active autowerkd kit
It does have a 68m pulley AA say 70m.. more boost as Iím running forged internals and titanium upgraded valve and springs.

Normally With c38 81 trim power figures are around 500-530bhp
I have meth fitted and installed but itís not active been blanked off the ports as the mapper/engine builder say let the engine run in. Our figure of 570 is without
Meth, with it working it will be more..

I will be fitting a c38-91 trim next year that along with meth we are aiming for 650+

If your going down the supercharger route I would recommend ca automotive
And perfect touch..

Sounds like a beast- what tracks do you take it too as ill have a look out for you next time im out at one?

I'm actually trying to find out if anyone is running 304 lift cams with SMG?
The cams raise the rev limiter and also the idle plus ill be running aftermarket management which will cause the smg to have a melt down.. Id love to talk to somebody who has already changed the smg software to cope with running high lift cams, seems its not been done tho...

Just to be clear 304 is duration not lift - running 304 on a stock compression engine isn't the best idea and based on the figures quoted above you could make more with 288/280 12.5mm lift. The greater duration is what will cause problems in the map low down more than anything as well. Running any of the 14mm lift cam kits without custom pistons isn't advised by schrick with or without vanos because its impossible to get the most out of them and you risk smashing valves.

What boost pressure are you running?

Do you have any more info on your titanium valve train? I take it you mean rockers and springs not valves?
