Hopefully that way my car won't ever need a new floor pan. The new floor they put in is no stronger than the old one, but it is reinforced with the foam to prevent it cracking again.
So an uncracked old floor with the foam treatment should be as good as would be provided by the repair anyway.

For belt and braces I'm also thinking of adding the Turner reinforcement kit, epoxy'd on and not welded. So far I'm only thinking about that bit though.
Mick, BMW have updated their bulletin ( i have seen it ) and dropped the foam injection on smaller cracks. Its a new floor now regardless of the size of the crack.

I would take suspension off. Plus mike even took my smg and ecu map off in case. He said the brakes should be fine though.

There NEEDS to be one thread containing ALL information on this issue!

Why it happens
Where to look
What to do
Pictures before/during/after repair
Peoples comments/questions..

After reading this thread, am I right in thinking I have to check around the 2 mounting pointing nearest to the BACK of the car and not the ones nearer the front?

If so, I have no visible cracks on an 02, 84k car.. My issue is, all our cars have underseal on, this would and probably is hiding small cracks in alot of cases..

Get it back and thrash it for a week!!

My 3" crack emerged from 5 days in the alps. It didn't have any cracks before.

I havent got a copy mate as it was left on the desk whilst the bodyshp manager was out the back. I had a quick flick through it and it's different to the one that's posted on here. The only time foam is mentioned is after the new floor is put in. Sounds as though your Stealer is feckin about tbh and doesn't have a scooby.

The issue here isn't a straight forward case of popping it into your local dealer after finding a crack and expecting it to be sorted, it's finding a dealer that knows about the issue and how to proceed.

I'm surprised how much demarcation there is between each BMW Stealer across the UK!

Maybe we can get a list of stealers that members have used to get their subframe crack sorted.

They can never deny they don't know about them then

I'm in the process of getting mine booked in with North Oxford BMW tho they use there mini garage in long hanbrough to access it.

Just finding out if the check is free and if the service manager at North Oxford(Tim Harris) has come across it before and if it's covered under the 10yr warranty, will see what happens..

Simpsons found a 50-60mm crack in mine this morning. Need to find a reputable dealer in the south Wales area or further if need be that know what they are doing with regards to floor replacements.

Anyone had theirs done around this area?

Will be interesting to hear the outcome. When I spoke to North Oxford at my last service the guy told me they had only ever had 1 or 2 since he had been there (something like 10 years)

Tried to fob me off with all sorts of bullshyte about BMW no longer covering it etc...

Has your subframe cracked mate or are you just getting a precautionary check. If its just a check your better off calling in to see Mark Purcell on the horspath estate. He'll probably check it there and then for a drink.

I've got a 2001 Manual E46 M3 and nothing was picked up on my recent Inspection I or after that when I got new trailing arm bushes/limiter kit fitted. However, the car just went in to my local Independent to get a coil pack changed and I asked them to check for cracks. After a very quick look they said they could see one definite crack by the front right mount (approx 15mm) and there may be another but they couldn't tell for sure unless they investigated further ie I pay them!!

I obviously need to speak to BMW about this now. My local main dealer is in Chandlers Ford (Hampshire) although the nearest bodyshop is in Winchester.
My worry is firstly I have a Miltek cat back exhaust system and secondly my rear tyres are 265's and not 255's as standard. Does anyone think these two points are anything to be worried about?

My car has only done 67000 miles and has full service history (BMW & specialist) but is nearly 10 years old, so I need to sort something out soon.

wait and see how i get on at hungerford mate and then use them if I have a good result. it's not far from winchester and they seem clued up about the issue too.

yes the exhaust will be an issue, not sure about the tyres though.
