Car: 2008 E92 M3 Manual
Default New Owner E92 M3

My last M car was a Z4 M Roadster, back in 2013, but my first child was born that year and so the Z4 had to go. I bought a 120D M-Sport and then an E91 330i M-Sport, then sold them both and bought an M135i. None of which I really liked, so finally I admitted the truth, which is that I just don't like non M BMWs and I certainly don't like turbocharged cars. So I am HUGELY happy to finally be back in an M3.

Here it is, with 59k on the clock in Interlagos blue, manual box with EDC, individual audio (incredible, even compared to the HK in the M135i) and heated seats.

The car is phenomenal in a way that the M135i just wasn't. It requires so much more driver input to get the best from it and rewards with a far higher degree of involvement.

Man after my own heart. It's all about that NA zing and savage upper end.

From what you've said I'm sure the S65 will deliver and keep you entertained.
Individual Audio is awesome, it had it in one of my previous V8s.

Colour is lovely mate. Any plans? Enjoy!

Thank you. I plan to keep the car long-term since this side of a good 911, I can't see what car could ever replace it aside from things like a Ferrari 456 or similar. I certainly wouldn't want to move to an M4 due to the turbos and electronics. I absolutely love the top end zing and it's SO good to have a car that has that again.

So, I guess plans are:

1. Make it completely rustproof...somehow, since all BMWs seem to succumb to rust eventually.
2. Get it polished up. I clayed the bootlid and polished and waxed it and it came up nicely, but I'd really like to get the whole car machine polished.
3. Make it lighter, somehow. Once both my kids are out of childcare, we'll have more disposable income for this kind of thing.
4. To just use it. My 4 year old initially said it was "too fast". He then changed his tune and said it's "the best car ever".

I share your thoughts on the M135i, I drove one a few months ago as I thought it would do the job of a daily work car and an M3, it didn't impress me much. I ended up buying a manual E92 M3 and currently have a 320D for commuting. The M3 only goes out in the dry.

On the weight thing I bought an M Performance exhaust to save 10kgs, good justification eh?!?! Buy a full ackrapovic to save 22kgs.

Good luck with it.

Good read !

Its threads like this which make me question - once again - as to whether I should really be selling my M3, in favour of a more family based car.

I think if you're really into cars that provide good driver satisfaction and I think I am (I've had E36 M3, E46 M3, Z4MR and a VX220T, plus loads of motorcycles too) then I think you'd really miss the feedback that the NA M cars provide. They have a rawness and feel that doesn't seem to be present in the F80-on cars. The M135i was just too comfortable and with too little feedback to be satisfying. It felt like a really hot 123d in the way that it drove. Put like that, it's easy to see why it didn't gel with me.

At the weekend, my wife and I will be picking up an X3 X35d for her, which will be the diesel family wagon. I'll be mainly using the M3 for commuting and nursery duties, but as I said, the kids love it.

With regards to weight, I think I need Evolve to code out the cold-start procedure first before I consider any exhaust changes. I leave the house at 6:20 every morning and although my neighbours are brilliant, I'd feel guilty making it any louder at this stage.

That's a bit of luck for me then! I had to drive for 45 minutes to view it, which was pretty good compared to other suitable cars out there at the time. There was another chap coming to look at it on the Saturday morning that I viewed it, but the seller said he'll be up from 5:30am due to his young family and so I took the opportunity and viewed it at 7:30am!

As you can tell, I'm really pleased with it. It's everything I'd hoped it would be. Not that I've listened to it much, since I prefer to hear the V8, but I can't believe how powerful the individual audio system is!

Thanks, I recently read that there are only 313 Interlagos Blue M3s in the UK.
Not sure of the truth in that, but it seems about right considering how few I see in that colour.

Lovely car, that's up there with my favourite specs (although a part of me wants a DCT and not another Interlagos!). Enjoy it, I completely get what you mean about non-M BMWs. I test drove a few M135/235i's when they first came out and whilst they were very good they never had that drama or thrill when driving them. Fast, capable but a little soulless. I had a 123d before that (hence the name...) and it was brilliant but exactly the same issue as the above. Enjoy! Plenty of pictures when you get it machine polished too In the right light Interlagos is stunning

Lovely car, dude. And nice colour.

But, for the love of God, get some M359s on it ASAP!
