Just got the dreaded email. Yes I know I could self host and probably will but really site admin should find a solution to this and post as a sticky.

It's already happened..I noticed on numerous sites the photobucket logo where there was once a pic..
Also on here, exactly as you've said..There was an amazing thread by Kev detailing the build of his E46 over several years..All gone.

I simply don't understand why they are charging 399 dollars! Nobody is going to pay that!

30-40 a year everyone probably would

Very strange!?

Yes I also found that very strange. I might have paid a few quid but definitely not $399.

Self hosting or Amazon S3 for me in future I'm pretty confident neither of those will disappear in the future.

Does anyone know if/how you can use dropbox to put a photo in a thread? I can only get a weblink...

I was pretty sure Dropbox does not allow hot linking . But a quick test and it does seem to work. Right click on your image in the dropbox viewer and copy the image location (url).

Why would they? I wouldn't pay a penny for 3rd party hosting....
Then again, I don't do social media so I'm guessing it's all tied in with that..
I'll just use imgur while it's free...when they start charging, i'll stop uploading pictures.

I must be doing something wrong, I tried that above, and also the 'create a link' option.

I don't think it's going to work. It only worked for me because I was signed in to my dropbox account and the image was already shared. I suspect if someone else tried viewing the image it wouldn't work. For example I can see a car wheel here but I suspect you can't?

As mentioned before, I've started self hosting using wordpress. Its not perfect, but there are plugins that enable you to create galleries in the back end of the site and you can set each gallery to re-size images to whatever size is best for the specific forum you are using.

The only thing I've not yet been able to do is find a plugin that automatically places IMG tags around the image so you have to click the "insert image" link when posting on cutters.... no big dramas though and its great not to have to get past multiple ads and popups to get to the photo you want to post.

Some screen shots:

All my different galleries in list view:

Then into the individual gallery where all the thumbnails are present. Just click on the thumbnail, right click the full size image, then copy image link and post on here....

I used to use Excel to hack photos on CarDomain. The gallery was a nightmare to navigate, so I dissected one link into it's component parts http user666 img 001 etc and dragged the image no. down to get a spreadsheet of codes.

Then got a little creative with the thumbnail code, and generated one of those for each line. Pasted the lot into a HTML tester to get a page of thumbnails you could click to open the larger image (and then copy the address bar)

It worked for me on the computer, however they don't show up on my kindle, so I'm not sure if Google photos is the one to go to yet either now...
