Default mini update, replacement temporary diff!

Well Last night we got the damaged old diff out of the car and Installed the low mileage temporary replacement, everything went to plan, looks a bit different to the diff I'm used to seeing (when the cars in the air ) However, no grinding sounds now and the car feels nice and tight again.

As I said previously, James and I will be rebuilding my old diff with all new parts and changing to a 3.91 ratio to improve acceleration, this won't be happening till the new year but a full thread will be done documenting the progress as we do it.

Replacement diff (this is a warranty replacement diff, the yellow sticker on the back of the diff cover gives an indication of this, as does the fact that the input shafts are the opposite way around to the original, (short one on the right as we look at the diff below) I spoke with Lawsy about this and he confirmed it was replaced under warranty, we believe this diff has only covered about 20-30kmax so plenty of life left in that)

The diff bushes were also in good nick, as these aren't a spareable item in standard for this was good news, BMW don't supply them for an E46 so a new diff cover would be required if they were worn, currently powerflex are having some fitment issues with their replacement items so we aren't using them!



Temporary replacement in, customary "Redish Chopper" added (James only does this on mine and Luke's cars, not paying customers, the price of free labour !!

Final pic, all back together, Heat shields, Under trays and exhaust all installed.

It was great to see how well the powder coated parts were holding up, a quick wipe over with some water and they all looked like the day they were fitted, remember this car is a daily and so see's all weather conditions! I didn't wipe the undertrays over as it seemed pointless in this weather, it was -2 in the garage last night and i'd lost all feeling in my fingers!



Massively pleased with how the car drives again now, as the diff had deteriorated over a period of months I was aware the car didn't feel right but not how bad it really had started to feel, the car is tight and noise free again now.

Bring on the diff rebuild

Thanks mate, the price varies dependant on what you decide you want done, the base price for the reinforcement is about 1000, the powder coating etc is additional from there, and needless to say it's a 4 figure job limited only by the depth of your pockets!

We do offer an underside strip and clean/protect service now too, if you want a price for this PM me.

Its a shame its all underneath and will rarely be seen. Although it is a nice feeling when you know your car is put together right.

Have a look at our FAQ section, there is a cost break-down there, sky's the limit really but a rough guide would be 3.5k+.

They work, but aren't a patch on Eibach, Turner arms etc. The exhaust side is nearly impossible to adjust with the exhaust on, which is sh1t, they should come with a special 26mm spanner bent into a ridiculous shape so you can access the adjustment nut, but they don't! Loving the new wheels mate, good work bud, catch up with you next time your at Redish.

Hmm I was looking at them and D2s
The eibachs are immense but sooo much money.
Ill have a look at turner as well then.

If you think the Eibachs are expensive I wouldn't bother looking at the turner ones, they cost even more I believe!

I just ordered these today before reading petes reply, how annoying!! Leaving my car to redish in two weeks so your just gonna hage to remove the edhaust to adjust them pete.

Can you elaborate a bit more on the warranty diff?
So your saying the shorter flange that normally on the driver's side is on the passenger side of the diff?

Can they be swapped? Was there any benefit? Is the diff unit inside any different?
