Looks nice but dash would put me off. Only a small thing but I like the air bag dash.

Should be a prefacelift grille, but a lot got changed because people wanted the newer look. Side indicators are right for the age. I thought passenger airbag was pretty much standard by that point, or was it one of those options that were hard sold by dealers so most late cars got specced with them?

I have had my fair share of E36 M3's, Evo and 3.0's of them all none had the passenger air bag, It looks great though.

I could work with the 1996 M3 on eBay, It would need some work but looks a good solid car. £10k would be fair I think if its Hpi clear.

Agreed,
Its a 9.5-10K car on a good day.

The interior lets it down and so it makes a bit more sense to pay a bit more and get a better car.

If it were sub 10K I would go and see it. say 1K on the seats, new badges, door seal, new front pre face lift grill. and then the other things that need doing will set you back close to the asking price.

Interesting thread.

I have noticed that there can be a wide difference what the market will price a car and what enthusiasts value the car.

I remember on the Supra forum a few years ago a popular dealer bought all the Supra Twin Turbos on the market that were UK origin. He then had them for sale at an inflated price and that price became the new benchmark for UK Supras.

I think the main problem is we're all enthusiasts and have probably been into e36s for a good few years and can remember a time when the car posted above would have been worth about £3.5k and struggle with the idea of anything but the lowest mileage and cleanest tidiest cars being worth five figures.

Then again I remember thinking people spending £15k on e30 m3s were mental

Good to know. Looked a nice car that.

So this proves that anyone saying that is a 9.5k to 10k car was wrong

I thought the car looked really nice. Not sure if having a facelift grill or that dash colour would have put me off. There aren’t that many around now so minor things like that shouldn’t really matter. Not like picking an e9x m3 where you can be really picky with spec/colours as there’s so many about.
Good luck with the car!

Thanks mate... tbh the colour of the dash never even entered my mind! All of my previous have had a grey dash but after seeing a black dash last week I think I lrefer... but i agree, there isnt enough for sale now to be extra picky on the combinations and having a good base and it being estoril blue was my main concern.

I prefer the facelift grille and presume i could always change it back later if i needed to?

Jamie.

If you want to use original BMW kidneys then you need to also change the centre support panel they're in to suit.

You can however get aftermarket grills that allow you to install facelift looking grills into a pre-facelift panel.
