Hello all, so I had the software updates on the car by a friend at BMW BUT the DCT is still jerky and I’m not too impressed with it tbh.
If I had the GTS software installled do you know if it smooths the gearbox out?

When I had the GTS software installed I found that the main differences were quicker shifts and shifting into reverse was instantaneous (I had lag before).

The jerkiness went away as I got used to the car and how it shifts on cold i.e. I drove "around" the jerkiness, because of the nature of the box I doubt it could ever be coded out etc.

I just can’t understand why bmw would have a car with this sort of jerkiness in a gearbox! Unless mine is in its way out or something.
The only time is doesn’t feel jerky is with very positive throttling but you can’t do that all the time.

Does it go away after the car warms up? Mine does, if yours doesn't it might be something more serious.

It's standard behaviour of all DCT transmissions as far as I'm aware (maybe not PDK), I know people that have driven M4s with DCT and they've said it's really jerky too so it's not just the E9x gen.

It’s certainly not as bad as it is when cold but still jerky for sure when warm.

Hope it’s not the frikin gearbox on it’s way out!

The gearboxes are pretty bulletproof. It's often the ferocity of the setting that can result in the jerky take up.

I used the softest setting for the gear changing when just driving about town, Once warmed up the car would quite comfortably pull away in second gear when set at S1 making for a really smooth take up.

It depends on how you want to drive the car. I fail to see the need for S5 setting when in traffic until you hit the "Go Like F***" dee restricted signs when the car comes alive and you are driving to your limits!

Totally agree with you matey.
But I drive the car in D1,2,3 S1,2,3 and can be gently pulling away at maybe 2500rpm and it feels lumpy and jerky like it’s bunny hoping.
When is S5 and pootling around I expect it to be jerky as the throttle response is so sensitive BUT not in the lower settings.
I have read that Throttle actuators can cause such issues, what’s your thoughts on that? Thanks again!

When I owned my Monte Carlo and had the actuators changed (earlier post), the car behaved better and was more user-friendly at lower speeds.
When you say it's bunny hopping do you mean its hunting? Like a continuous jerking until you get to say 15 - 20mph?
If so it sounds like the air/petrol mixture might be an issue, though that should show up somewhere on a code reader. Have you had the car diagnostically checked?
I wouldn't necessarily take it to BMW, find yourself a good indy and have it checked over properly.
I assume you bought the car privately without a warranty?
These cars are great but they can be hugely frustrating. In some ways too technically sophisticated!!! Sign of the times I'm afraid.

I could only discribe it as bunny hopping/kangerooing.
Once up on speed and revs, it’s absolutely fine.
Had the diagnostics checked by a bmw specialist in Hampshire, and there was absolutely nothing to report.

GTS software is decent and I’m not knocking it, had it on my old car.

BUT it’s bloody aggressive, in the wet and pushing on every gear change would be breaking traction - for that reason I wouldn’t recommend it.

Some would say turn the gearchange aggressiveness down and it’s fine, my 2011 DCT is better than my 2008 GTS software DCT previous car ....

What I have noticed is that I’m getting 180 miles to £70 worth of fuel! So that can’t be right surely! And that’s not me driving like a turd, it’s me driving pretty carefully and respectful.

Don't know were a bouts you live but may be see if some one with same car would meet you so could compere yours with another M3 dct as yours sounds a bit strange, I would be happy to let you try mine (I live in Northants area)

Same here. Gts box and 2.5 exhaust mod. Sounds bloody epic and so smooth.

When on the march switch it to dct5 and bury your foot. Bloody flies!!!
I love the high rev but I also ****e myself that it’s revving so high ha

So, sorry to drag this out the archives but getting rather p1sswd at this hunting/jerking on light acceleration, I decided to go into the M Key set up and change the standard drive to Sports. By doing this, it has eliminated nearly all the hunting/jerkiness when accelerating!
Any ideas on why this would be? More fuel being used?
