Default Remove & Fit M3 e46 diff advise

Got another diff that I need to fit to my e46 M3 and I have never done one on a beemer before. Can the diff only just be changed without dropping whole rear end or does the complete rear axle need to come off?

Also what diff oil do ppl recommend or should I just stick with bm oem?

Any tips or advise would be appreciated 👍

Yep, unbolt the driveshafts/propshaft and the 3 mounting bolts and lower it down on a jack - fairly simple and no need to touch the subframe. I can't remember what we had to remove to access the prop bolts but with the car in the air and in Neutral you can remove the driveshaft bolts dead easy.
