Default What kind of MPG do people get?

A boring question I know (and yes this week is a boring week at work)!

Normally I'm not at all bothered about economy, I didn't buy the car to be economical however lately my car has been feeling very tired and as its my only working car I don't want to risk not being able to get to work!

I drive from Sutton to Chiswick every day which is a pretty horrible 18miles and driving like a nun I've average 27.5mpg! The kids school holiday is certainly helping that.

Naturally I can't wait to fix the long list of issues and return to my normal 19mpg but was wondering what kind of economy people achieve, could I do better around town?

My car is an SMG and is largely standard bar an evolve remap, its a touring so a little heavier than a coupe but lighter than the convertible.

Rob,

Pretty much a steady 22.6mpg, daily back road and motorway commute.

25mpg over 20,000 miles. I generally do 60-70 on the motorway which helps bring that up. If my driving was mainly around town I'd expect 18-22mpg.

Thats pretty impressive tbh, before I felt guilty of hammering a wounded solder I was averaging 20 at best over 6K.

Haha, that is impressive in its own right!

I found it hard for a few days not to play with fast stuff (you know the feeling, when you see an RS3 and you just need to have a go) but for the last few days its been quite pleasant just flowing with traffic.

I got 42mpg once but I was sat behind a wagon at 35- 40mph for 7miles...

My old house I was mainly town driving so 20mpg area, now I live rural and have 7mile of a A road joining to a motorway and sitting at 60 - 70 on that I usually get 35mpg

Short trips and urban means about 17/18 for me. I have seen as high as 30mpg when trundling on the motorway. I've had a total Vanos replacement by Mr Vanos, adjusted valves and cleaned MAF unit but still get crap (but per the spec) mileage. My Porsche is now my economy car.

Mine sits between 21-23 ish.... has done over the last 6 years or so.
Got 35mpg on a steady run up to darlington once. Used about 3/4 of a tank to do 260-280miles.
I was happy with that.

Haha Thanks, when I was commuting big miles a few years back I learnt a lot about eco driving and most of those techniques just filter into habit after a while! Doesn't stop me driving the car properly when I feel like it though!

I've got around 24MPG over the 2 years and 15k I've covered in the car over 2 years. That's basically cruising through town and doing 70-80 on the motorway. My motorway MPG is around 30.

The best tank I've ever had was in France. I got 430 miles from full with the reserve light only just coming on then.

Anywhere between 15 and 32 on the trip depending on how I drive.

I've done calculated 26.6mpg in the 30k I've done in the car over 5-years. Majority of that has been motorway. If I do some short trips it will drop to ~23. Obviously proper hooning brings it right down.

Sounds like you are doing well OP.
