In terms of stolen recovered, I understood that marker is only put on if the car is deemed a write off under category i.e. (CAT D/C stolen recovered for which it will be a write off and I'll get a payout) and the insurance company pays out (my reading on pistonheads and the like seems to confirm this). No idea if it will be a CAT D write off but guess we will see.
Gutted mate.

Such a shame they didn't find it upside down and burnt out with two charred skeletons inside.

This situation is just so shyte....

Even with the vehicle recovered, there is more stress for the OP and some possible difficult decisions to make.

I know this is a bit "after thought-ish" but you must be able to buy the non ribbed bit that goes on the door handle to hide the fact you have Comfort Access?

Glad you got it back (if thats what you wanted)......hope you get the outcome you need.

Certainly would have me worried if I had comfort access (I don't). I wouldn't have a tracker either - if its nicked then they can keep it !

Then I doubt the comfort access would work as I understand the ribs are touch sensitive.

The issue here is not having comfort access or the handle giving it away, the issue is leaving your keys in the house near the car and not in a faraday pouch or metal box.

So spoke to insurers, they spoke to recovery place and the recovery spot reckon it will be total loss. They said the car was picked up mid way through being stripped!!!

All hearsay but sounds like the guys may have been caught which is at least one saving grace. Still waiting for Cambridgeshire police to call to confirm what the hell happened. The car is on police hold at the pound, presumably for investigation purposes.

Probably the best outcome, you wouldn’t want it back anyway. Did you have GAP?

Indeed. If you've got GAP this is indeed the best result mate.

If you need help with a decent dealer to get a replacement asap let me know.

Hi, no the insured (the OP) has no say if he gets the car back...as it is purely a commercial decision by the Insurer, if it will repair or not.

If it is repaired - it won't be on any type of "marker" or "file"...so it won't effect the value.

However (OP) please ensure the vehicle goes to a top Bodyshop - BMW approved preferably.

Your Insurer will try to use their own Approved Bodyshop, however the chances of this Bodyshop using genuine parts or indeed BMW Approved Paint is slim....make sure you use a Bodyshop you know and trust and ensure they use BMW OE Parts...BMW Bodyshop's offer a Lifetime Guarantee.

I've got the pouch below. Can't promise it'll stop someone stealing your car though.

Don’t just assume that these work. Put your key in it and try to open the door.
Someone on here linked to one on eBay around the same price and looks exactly the same as this one.
I bought two and tried them as above, didn’t make a blind bit of difference, doors unlocked as usual.

Yes mate, I have.

And unlike most of you I had re-shelled it so I had had the "new" shell sprayed and put every nut bolt and screw on it so a bit more invested than those who love one until the next

So then I bought it back, stolen and partially stripped, fixed it and made a profit

But it's still just a car and you fix it or not.

You’d built it once , twice wasn’t going to hurt lmao , if some scrowt drove mine and ripped it half apart I wouldn’t want to build it back up and I wouldn’t trust anyone else to

You trusted a lot of unskilled people that stand at a station all day putting the same part on as they sail by, none of which you knew to build it, so no difference.

Sorry to read this op. Absolute [email protected]

A mate had this done to his cayenne. In the end Porsche bought it from him, as they couldn't get hold of some parts to rebuild it. As for not wanting it back, ignoring the ragging and kerbing etc, can you imagine all the rattles from having the trim ripped apart and put back in?
