Default Kev's Sparkling Graphite E92 M3

Right I'm back with another 92, this time I've bought the right car!!! I bought this at the end of March and its only now I've had the time to start a build thread due to my laptop packing up and a big back garden project taking up all my time. After the horror show of that space grey one I had briefly, which I quickly fell out of love with due to a bad paint job that I didn't notice till a few weeks after purchasing it here's my latest acquisition. After viewing and testing around 10 frozen paint cars that all had bad paintwork including a 22k miles frozen silver edition in Southampton. I was on my way to see that frozen silver when this one came up at a Porsche specialists in Bath. The S/G M3 was in top condition and given it was only an hour away, it would of been rude not to view it. I came away impressed. It was a bit older than I wanted but it was in really nice condition. I still went to see the f/silver edition just to compare. That had a shocking repaint on the rear 1/4 panel so I came back to this, I viewed 5 year younger cars in far worse condition so I went for it. It's a 58 plate with 45k on the clock ,fully loaded too, unlike the last one! options are:
DCT ,adaptive headlights ,front and rear parking sensors ,brushed aluminium interior trim, electric folding mirrors and of course the holy trinity of EDC, upgraded HIFI and heated seats. The trim level is exactly how I would have wanted, no comfort access which is good! no silly rear sun protection glass and all in one of my favourite colours, sparkling graphite. It's completely standard apart from a retrimmed steering wheel in alcantara which is in good condition too.

I did have time though 3 weeks ago to get it fully Ianized! at Alpina527's house ,comprising of fully retrofit of cic idrive , GTS gearbox coding, latest engine software ,electric folding mirrors on the press of the keyfob ,coding for LCI rear lights for the near future and of course comp pack edc coding!

interior in bits with Ian doing his stuff

then a few days later I removed the seats to perform a full interior deepclean, I cant stand other peoples past rubbish etc, I have to say there was hardly anything to hoover up!

interior is lovely now with no signs of any smoking in the past and the leather is nice n matt now and with a b/new cic console to match!

Default throttle motor inspection

One day last week I had some time so i thought lets have a look at the ol' throttle motors. I did this before with my other 92's and they all got similar findings, very minimal plastic gear dust but about 4 or 5 teeth had gone pointy, they'll be ok for now but might get them repaired in the future

these are the original t/m's from day one as the date ties in with the build date of the car!

minimal signs of wear, we'll see how they go!

while I was there I chucked in a new set of spark plugs!

Default Put my plate on

Finally got round to this as I didn't bother on the last 92 !
This plate is my birthday January 16th and my initials,at a glance ,it reminds me of Jurgen Klopp! I cant get that out of my head now, lol

removed the rear plate then intensely cleaned up the boot of old remnants of adhesive pads and machine mopped the boot for my new plate to stick better,as you can see in the photo the factory chassis number decal is still there between the number plate screw holes, which doesnt look like its had paintwork on the rear.

removed the front plate along with the plinth while I was there I removed the front chrome grilles and cleaned out the inside black plastic too and fitted new oem black grilles

went for a slimline front plate

rear plate on

Finally you’re happy haha!

Congrats on finally getting the ‘right’ E92 for you mate. I hope this will be a long and happy marriage!

Great start with the CIC retrofit and look forward to seeing you out you’re own stamp on it.

Happy and marriage are two words I rarely find in close proximity to each other.

Awesome car.
Save me some old actuator cogs. My mate has got his 3D set up for ABS now so would be interesting to see what can be done.

Default Painting side grilles & bonnet vents

Removed and stripped the side grilles ,rubbed them down with some 400 grit then finer scotchbrite, then primed them with a "magic" 2k epoxy primer along with a topcoat of 2k epoxy black, flatted them back with some cutting compound then a coat of siramik sc15

Default Machine mopping & siramik coating

So the last two days i've been machine mopping swirls etc, i have to say im very impressed with the paint work on this car , apart from some front bumper stone chips its in great condition.
started off by removing the rear spoiler ready for next week, can you guess whats coming?

then snowfoamed and washed it

after clay barring , which there was hardly any contaminants at all i started the long boring job of machine mopping cutting compound followed by polishing then 2 coats of siramik sc15

here it is all coated with a lovely shine on

with the black grilles & vents fitted

I have the matt black trims and mirrors as opposed to the gloss black ,there were a bit faded and after cutting back the faded layer and applying siramik they're now a lovely deep satin finish but not qiute gloss, im well happy how they turned out!
