Normally, if TMC is enabled and you have a TMC disc in the nav drive (TMC= Green), then TMC signals are passed to the nav unit (via Classic radio), to the TMC message menu.

You get icons on screen for when you hit traffic problems on the road you are on, if you are being routed (via the nav), then you will get a message asking if you want to be rerouted as there is a something blocking the road ahead.

But you need to access the TMC info menu to see what the actual problem is.

With Dynamic Routing.
Same as above, but it will also display (and voice message) problems when not being routed as it "knows" what road you are on and where the hold ups are, and it will also offer alternate routes on screen.

No need to access the TMC info menu to see what the actual problem is any more either as its done dynamically to screen.

That will depend on your definition of better mate, but I would say yes it does.

im guessing this is the amp on my professional sat-nav unit?
No, its the radio module, it has small built in amps that are crap, the upgrade upgrades them to something a bit more up to the job.

ive been thinking of ways to improve my sound system without spending alot of money and changing anything major in my car
Then this is ideal, the modded bm54 will improve the sounds, more bass and more mids, with clear mids and highs, its quite an improvement, even with HK, however don't expect an earth shattering upgrade though.

Quote:
my car runs the hk system, which im not overly impressed with, and i get annoying vibrations from my sub (convertible before anyone asks)
Well its a cheap(ish) upgrade and is plug and play (as OEM) so no messing with leads or plugs, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Does this work or apply if you have a Dynavin Unit? (sorry for the dumb question)

No, you have replaced the OEM kit with the Dynavin (and its ilk).

I've had this done too, after reading the review on this very thread.

I have HK but am also running a separate amp to power new front components and a 12" sub in the boot.

Upgrading the BM54 has given my LOC a much healthier signal to work with going into the additional amp and also adds a bit more clarity to the rears/OEM subs for rear fill. (I'm faded 70% to the front).

Thanks Baris!

well basically i have some cheapo Vibe Slicks in their at the moment. They were a quick fix for a blown OEM speaker.

They are good, but a bit too bright at the top end for my liking so will be getting changed eventually.

They were very easy to fit (i used 13cm with apadtors), had plenty of clearence as they were a few mm shorter overall as the OEM stuff.

That's the problem with the 13cm jobbies, no real bass, consider 17cm speakers when you upgrade, they will fit. they make all the difference.

Resurrected....

I posted my BM54 off on Thursday and received it back yesterday, great service.

Fitted it back in last night and there is a distinct improvement. I no longer feel the need to be fiddling around with the bass/treble settings at higher volumes - it used to feel as though the system found it awkward dealing with certain tones at higher volume, but now it handles everything sweet.

Bass is much better too, the whole thing just generally feels more comfortable.

If anyone is considering upgrading the entire system then this is certainly worth trying first. I was considering it, but it really doesn't need anything more now.

Cheers fella, a big improvement for a very reasonable price and top service!

Xkalibar - i've just picked up my m3 - and this seems to be the must have mod. Where abouts in London are you? If I was to come to see you - is it the type of thing I could wait around for? Can you PM me details? I've changed stereos on other cars etc - but dont have the keys for this one.

Very keen on the dynamic routing too - is that part of the standard firmware update on the sat nav or something special that you do as part of the upgrade?

Thank you very much for your comments mate Glad you're enjoying your sounds finally!

That is why I tell people to try this out first, before going down aftermarket route.

I just bought some alpine rear speakers, which I will only install one to see the difference between oem and aftermarket, with my amp upgrade

I am located in North London Enfield, any good for you? You can wait with me while I do your unit or pop up to the top of my road to the cafe for tea. I make better tea though
