Seriously fella take PMW off the list, I paid them to check mine, gave me all the spiel about how much they knew and how experienced they were, with the subframe problems. They said mine was fine and there were no cracks.

6 weeks and 400 miles later I was poking around underneath and found a large crack. I could see a feint line in the dirt and when I wiped it off a crack was visible. They hadn't even wiped the dirt off the floor to check!!! I had to lay on the floor, they had a ramp so god knows how they missed it.

Spoke to PMW who didn't want to know, extremely arrogant, no apology, not understanding at all, couldn't really care to be honest. I was very disappointed as despite all the negative things I heard about them I thought I'd give them a go as they are local to me. Currently with Vines having the damage repaired.

Here's some pics, bear in mind this is just an iPhone held under the car, shows how obvious the crack was!!

To be fair mate. At first you claimed it was two weeks and 100 miles. Then in reality it turned out to be 8 weeks and in excess of 400 miles. That's plenty of time for cracks to get a lot worse.

Pmw have diagnosed dozens of cracked floors along with helping many members with their claims.

Check your facts please

Here's my OP below - 6 weeks was the timeframe, I never said it was 2 weeks or 8 weeks. I originally said 100 miles which I changed to 400 miles when questioned after I double checked the invoice, I did more miles than I thought - easy to get carried away in an M

The fact that they didn't even clean or wipe the floor proves that they didn't check properly, this can be clearly seen in the pics. Even the spot welds are clearly showing signs of stress!!!!!!!!

If you want I can scan in the PMW invoice and the Vines paperwork showing mileage and dates?

End of the day the service I received from them was far below what I should have received from an "experienced specialist". You can twist my words all you want, even accuse me of sour grapes, you'd be right!! They cost me money and didn't do what I asked despite claiming that they did and if I hadn't of done their job for them then my car would have been out of the 10 year period very soon and I'd be faced with a very large bill for repair!

I appreciate and am happy that they have lots of other satisfied customers

I've only ever heard good things about them myself. They were self proclaimed "experts" on boot floor cracks which is why I booked it in with them. I spoke to them on the phone today and they were in complete denial that they could have missed it claiming that it must have happened within the 6 weeks/100 (edited 400 miles) miles that have lapsed since they looked at it. Not sure what pissed me off more the fact they missed it or the way they spoke to me like "how dare I criticise their experts". Although to be fair I did have to wipe a bit of dirt off with a rag to see the crack.

+1 for Bluebell in Wilmslow. Mines going in today. They knew all about the issue and warranty claim was confirmed within a week, as stated, car must be not over 10 years old.

Default Subframe inspections / repairs staffordshire

Hi,

I've not yet bought an M3, but I'm in the process of finding one. The subframe issue is something Which is concerning me, and as such I'm looking for a 54 plate or onwards car to keep me in the free repair window! Does anyone know of bluebell bmw (Crewe) or knights in staffordshire having any experience of doing the work, or any other garages with the area? A few have mentioned blue bell in wilmslow so I'm hoping that Crewe may offer the same level of service.
Thanks!

Regarding BB Wilmslow (Handforth is the body shop)
They've now been taken over/rebranded as Halliwell Jones, and as part of that there have been changes to personnel.I know of some that I respect that are no longer there, so how amenable they will be to this repair in the future is possibly open to question.

Question

Just taken mine straight to Williams body shop in Brinnington Stockport, NOT to the Williams car dealership and they have inspected it, found a small crack or three and have submitted it to BMW. They also repaired my last e46.

Car in for its MOT today at Harry Fairbairn Kirkcaldy. Getting pictures taken at same time for corrosion warranty claim.

Mentioned sub frame check and apparently circular going round all BMW dealers asking for this to be checked when cars are in for MOT

Just worth mentioning anytime you put your cars in a main dealer

Had mine done at Bovey Court Garage in Bovey Tracey a few weeks back.
01626 835940.

Run by 2 BMW enthusiasts that have done a fair few of these now, including their own and friends cars. Think one of them used to be a BMW tech.

They remove the rear end, clean up all 4 mounts, drill the crack ends, weld them up, make up their own plates and do all 4 mounting points, seal, paint then wax oil.

Very knowledgeable guys that are happy to talk to you about what they will do and provide photos of the various stages on a memory card.

Cost would have been 900 but while they were there they replaced the rear brake lines and fitted some Poly RTABs so came in at 960.

They also welded up where the inner and outer wing starts to go on both sides. Can't recommend them enough if you are in the SW.

Pic of one of the plates the used.

Lets not turn this into a Redish arse licking thread, we all know how good they are.

Not everyone, myself included, is able to afford to pay the best part of 2k for a job that can be completed to a high standard for half that amount.

If you are happy to pay that much then good for you, but this thread is here to give people other options on where will carry the work out, of which I am sharing my experience.
