Default New M2 owner

Will be a new M2 owner in a few days. Purchased a 66 plate DCT in mineral grey with 4k on the clock this morning. Seems to have quite a few options, so looking forward to getting it (well, it's the wife's car actually).

Other car I considered was an M4, with examples kicking around the same price. I appreciate there is massive rivalry between the 2 models, so expect I'll keep the M2 for about 6 months then chop it for an M3/4, for a direct comparison.

We had an M135i in the family a few years ago, and we absolutely loved it. That had the 8 speed single clutch gearbox, which suited the car really well. What can we expect from the 7 speed DCT in terms of everyday use and performance when pushing on?

Hey mate ,

Congrats - I took delivery of an LLB a few weeks back. Before i had an F80 M3 and before that an M4.

Really enjoying the M2 . Completely different car , so chuckable and nimble. A very simple driving experience and sounds awesome , much moreso than the M3.

The bigger Ms were awesome , so quick but heavy compared to the M2. I find myself taking the M2 out just to drive it - i find it that good.

It took a long time to gel with the M4 and M3 but in themselves , were great cars. Just feel and look so big and cumbersome.

Glad I made the change and don't feel I have an inferior car. Its just a different driving experience which suits me better

Hi. Really glad to hear the positive feedback. I imagined the 2 models to be totally different. Had countless 3/4/5 series over the years, and a few 1 series. You can always tell the difference in quality going up the range, but hoping that the M2 feels different to the M135i (all the reviews I've read and watched suggest that to be the case).

The M2 was delivered a few days ago and took it out the other night. It's quite a different beast to the M135i. Don't know if its just me, but feels like you need to be a lot more engaged to get the best out of it - read that as a lot more awake, and get a lot more feedback, with spirited driving.

The DCT is also completely different feel to the normal 8 speed auto I'm used to, and taking some getting used to (in a good way).

It's replaced the wifes 420d M-Sport vert. She's fallen in love with the M2 (she loved her M135i, but loves this more).

Its weird - i think the black and white colours do the shape no favours. in LBB or mineral grey , looks so hunkered down and purposeful.

I don't miss my F80/F82 at all - absolutely love it

Thanks for all the comments. I'm beginning to gel with it - it just took some getting used to. The M135i was certainly an easier car to drive "out of the box". My daily is an F31 tourer auto 320D M-Sport, so the 2 cars are like chalk and cheese. Sometime I just want to get in and drive from a to b with minimum fuss and concentration, and the 320 does that. Sometimes I want to go from a to b, via s, t u and v, quickly, so the M2 is perfect for that.
