Default SMG specialist cannock/stafford area please?

Hi guys.
I had a diagnosis done on my e46 m3 and he found a loss of hydraulic pressure error on my car and the cog and engine management lights are on. As he chap is not a bmw specialist he didnt have enough info to identify what was wrong. I need to find someone in my area that could look at it and find out what the issue is.

Hopefully I'm completely wrong but the diag would suggest there's a fault with the pump. Maybe post something in the faults or general section and for some advice contact Phil @ CPC in Amersham and maybe try Dee/ Mo? @ Parts tech in Basingstoke, they do SMG pump refurbs and the process of elimination as to specific internal issues so they know which items are to be refurbed. Doesn't hurt to try any or all of the above. Hope it is some help, keep us posted as to his you get on.

Hi Marty.
Thanks for the reply. I have a post on the faults section and a chap has replied with my fear "smg pump mate? the acumulator the round bubble shaped thing ont he pump leaks.. or i would change the relay 1st let us know how you get on"
I will try contacting who you suggested. I don't know how it all goes together so hoping its something minor and not too expensive. I have done the obvious by changing the relay to no avail.
Thanks for your help. I'll let you know how I get on. I just wish there was someone local to me that I could just leave it with.

After reading different threads about the pumps I am beginning to think mine way not be a pump issue. I had the car about 2 months with no cog lights on etc, I did however have slight judder sometimes when pulling away. I tried doing an adaption and half way through failed with "window 4 too small" or something and the INPA stopped going through the gears. This brought the cog and engine management light on. The gears were a bit screwed up and the car was un driveable. A few days later I did another adaption and although it still failed with the same error, the car was driveable so I took it to a garage. He cleared several errors but the one hat keeps coming back was loss of hydraulic pressure error 88. My gears aren't jumping, coming out of gear or anything. Sometimes when pulling away it does stay in 2nd for a bit too long but then eventually changes up. Does that sound like a pump? I'm beginning to think not now.

It can be quite a mixed bag imo and you could be wrecking your head reading the various posts as to how it all started to go wrong etc.

I believe the pump has to maintain a min pressure of 80psi?? anything less and nothing happens??
It could be the pump, it could be some of the "pump" related internals, the temp sensor, damaged wires in or around the unit, then theres the potential of it being the actuator but this doesn't appear that common from what I can see, then you get to the gearbox and indent springs etc etc then on to relays.

Now that's my simplest form (and its there or thereabouts for me, prob forget the flux capacitor hyperdrive switch too ) of getting to grips and understanding it.

Honestly, just speak to any of those previously mentioned you've nothing to lose only gain
The diagnosis seems very hit n miss on this sadly.

No doubt others will have their opinion and understanding which is fine, just wish we as a community could hone and fine tune it so as diagnosis could be more conclusive and correct.

This is a bit late but if you still have your M3 this might help now or later , I changed my salmon and was ok for 3 years but now the car will even go into neutral coming off the drive , I finally found an indi close to both of us after 8 years of having mine lol [url]www.jbsas.co.uk in stafford and that is were my car is now so waiting for his report , also found this site for pump repair or part exchange https://shop.bba-reman.com/shop/make/bmw/bmw-m3-smg-pump/

I am having a smg 2 errors which are

38 hydraulic pressure
and 03 solenoid value 5

Car keeps kicking out of gear

On startup bar on pump is 70 bar

but after cog light comes on pressure drops to 11 bar and wont crank after that


next day always starts

Cant hear no pump priming

Please can people let me know what ot could be as Its a scary feeling at the moment.

CODES which showed up before were the gear position sensor cleared it and it never came back but 38 and solenoid value keeps coming back right away after cleared. Please advise any help would be appreciated ans anyone around nottingham with inpa and knows there stuff who could help me diagnose this issue. Thanks
