M15Ley - I followed your instructions and fitted the soil pipe to my air intake next to the fog light. BTW I also have a K&N installed.
I cannot believe the difference this has made to the car - It runs much smoother and picks up much better. I did 300 miles of motorway driving yesterday and it was like I had the sports button on or had some sort of remap. The car feels so much better. Great mod - and only cost me £4.19 plus a squirt of silicone. Cheers |

Would be worth getting some hamann style fog duct covers e.g. like these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-01-06-E46-...item23068a204f Then you could attach the air pipes to the two holes on the covers which would give a nice tidy finish once fitted.

Yeah not really concerned about looks as car is mainly for track, holes are too small in the Hamman covers, restrict airflow. But cheers.

Hi
I dunno what you guys have got at the moment but mine's a standard M3. I bought a 110mm 45 degree soil pipe but there's no way you can fit it in there. I took it back and got a 64mm guttering pipe with a 45 degree angle and it fits perfectly. Here's some pics: Where the airbox sits (you can see the pipe come up into the bottom of it) ![]() ![]() Here's the base where the fog light sits ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's the bit I bought (the part touching the newspaper is the bit that goes into the pipe that leads to the bottom of the airbox ![]() And here's it fitted ![]() ![]() I wasn't sure if it would make a difference as I live in Jersey and it's a lot of stop/start but you will definately feel the difference. The good part about the 64mm bit is that the air can still reach the brakes. All in all, it cost me £2.69!!!

Fasteddy, 110 will fit as you can see in my pic, but i had to cut where the oem pipe comes down to the duct, which was easy when you take out the lower part of the front iner arch, you can see and get to it with no problem, but the way you have done it and kept everything looks good,
cantfind1, cant wait to get my csl airbox fitted (out of stock) i will be extending my air duct when fitted, from your pics it shows how large it is, when the 4in pipe looks lost in there |

i just popped around the corner and bought a pipe from b&q for £3.98.
Managed to squeeze it straight in without having to remove anything and fits a treat and is held firm by itself although i did put a dab of epoxy to help hold it but isn't needed. The one i bought had a perfect 45 deg bend and is labbelled as 68 mm like in the link. The end with the ribbed bit is what faces out and the ribbed bit helps keep it in place. Like rbmex said, with this size there is plenty space for air to get to the brakes as well. http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9272662&fh_view_ size=10&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB&fh_sea rch=45+marley&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=search&ts=1 278871918513&isSearch=true |

m thriller, have you driven you car since you fitted it? I wanted to know if it made a difference as I felt it did but I may just think it anyway.

I also have a BMC panel filter which obviously helps with more ram air effect. My runs were cut a bit short as my fcuking engine check light came on and my ****ty code reader won't read the code as it bmw specific! |

Thought I'd give this ago.
Went to Homebase and got me one of these: ![]() Got some aluminium mesh, cut out a circle then fixed it into the pipe with some silicone. This should stop leaves, debris and small mammals getting up into the airbox. ![]() Then stuck the 60mm diameter end into the end of the OEM air pipe. Nice snug fit and after a bit of wriggling its wedged in place so no need for any glue or screws. ![]() Excuse all the bug splats. Just need to take it for a good drive now.

Pipe looks great. I may have to get some mesh for mine.
Do you notice any difference?

I have just got my hands on some flexible ducting from work that they use to put underground cables in.
It is 65mm OD and 50mm ID. It bends into a lovely smooth 90 bend. Hope to try and fit it the weekend. Nice free mod if it works ! |

HI shotyzee, made it to homebase yesterday and made one in 10 mins today, awesome fit, and you can just push it in and it is solid, no fixing needed, perfect! Easiest one yet! Just a quick trim on the mesh, glue it with the glue gun and a quick spray, simples. And to others just make sure is is a 110 degree pipe marked 68mm, fits perfect. Some rep coming your way when i fond out how to do it!
Anyone local need a bit of mesh give me a shout, have spare from an old project. Before spraying... IMG_0341.JPG In place... still plenty room for air to the brakes, more than it looks. Pic upside down!! IMG_0345.JPG I also decided to remove these covers when i was in, let some more air to the brakes, the osf one is completely blocked, no idea why but it wont cool your brakes any! Takes 10 secs to do, think it is a great idea now i've got braided hoses, PF discs and pads and ate superble fluid, cheapest brake upgrade yet! IMG_0342.JPG Anyone thought of blocking the hole in the original duct on the left hand side of the tunnel behind where the pipe goes up to the air intake? The air will flow in here but get stuck and not flow as clean through to the brakes. It doesnt seem to lead anywhere as it is blocked off and cant see any sensors in there, or any reason for it as there is not one on the drivers side? Anyone know why it is there? Cheers, allan Last edited by gledy2 : 1st August 2010 at 06:10 PM. |
