Thruxton July 23rd, Opentrack

Anyone else booked on...?

robmarrs 29th June 2018 08:07 PM

I want to do Thruxton as I have never been. although I used to watch the touring cars there in the 80's as I lived in Andover.

Do they have garages / covered pits available to put any gear in?

I've only driven one day there but it's a proper fast circuit, I love it!

They have little garages yes, my last day (again with Opentrack) they unlocked the first 18 or so for general use first come first serve... I ended up sharing with a Caterham man to store some stuff in

Keep your eye on yr tyres, check very well post every session, Thruxton is a tyre killer like nowhere else, I did 3 slicks on Monday, it was roasting mind, but i did a pair last time i went even when far cooler.

I recommend pouring coolant on them. That will make your snipper twitch, apparently ;)

Tempted as want to try Thruxton... but Opentrack days always seem to be carnage!

You think?

I always try and book Dave's days as they're limited numbers, photography and tuition included... unlike MSV or Javelin. Never had an issue on his days!

My experience with them too.
Ive done 3 thruxton days in last few years in the Clio, all with motorsports events https://www.motorsport-events.com/co...ons/track-days, and they've all been very good. Quite strict (I got moaned at for overtaking on a bend, despite the car indicating and appearing to be stopping!)
90db Noise is killer for most which keeps days quite quiet.
Definitely a tyre killer, but digging deep to take Church with a small lift only is a massive buzz.

I notice the noise restriction is quite low @ 90dB.

My car is std exhaust with an AC Schnitzer rear box, it passes @ Bedford every time, but I can't remember exactly what my dB rating is.

What dB rating is others that have gone to thruxton.

My E46 with Milltek cat-back normally makes 94-96db at Combe, Goodwood etc... but at Thruxton came in at a handy 89db. They seem very lenient and many other louder cars made it on ok... Noble M12, Audi R8 V8 etc...

See you there, looks like it is going to be a hot one, hope the tyres can take it.

Mine is on stock exhaust with carbon airbox. Old guy at Thruxton doing the noise testing had a hearing aid on. He told me to rev it to 5800 rpm. It made 78db. He came back to the window and asked me if I had revved it yet. Cheeky fooker!

Good to meet you too.

NO Carnage at all, yes there were a few Caterhams who think they can pass where they like and crawl all over you aswell as a few full on race cars that were f88king quick for a Fiesta!

All in all a good day out, took me a while to get my bearings and would take a few more visits to be really fast, first circuit I have had to really balance the car on the throttle, very little braking other than for the chicanes.

Tyres were fine, first track day for the Zestino 07RS Medium compound, for the money absolutely amazing tyres........ just got a load of pickup on them.
